It is shameful that so many people have no idea as to what and why Memorial Day is celebrated . Prior to the actual day I asked numerous people and was not supprised as to the answers. Some had absolutly no idea and some said to honor our veterans. But when advised it was to honor the veterans that had paid the ultimate price with their life for our freedoms. A local car dealership sent sales message to the wife but they did title it as "Thoughtful Memorial Day" which was not that bad considering what others have done. But I think that so much is taken for granted when certain holidays are used to promote sales and not honor the real reason for the holiday. .............Prior to 1971 it was known as "Rememberance Day" but was changed to what we have today..............drill sgt.

You are not being too picky in my opinion. As a veteran, when someone thanks me for my service on Memorial Day I typically try to politely thank them for their intent, but remind them that the day is for my buddies that died during their service and all those like them.

I have never heard anyone say that,
And
Yes if someone did say it ,it would catch me off guard and make me wonder.

No it would not anger me, or make me sad or instill grief

It pretty much wrecks me when people celebrate with fire works displays,

I can close my eyes to the
Light show,
But the explosions and concussions
Make me all kinds of anxious.

A morbid sadness /sorrow set in after five or six minutes.

This thread reminds me of Jewish members thread , 3 or 4 years ago.

Seems they have a day of remembrance that a lot of people get mixed up with a day of celebration.

No enjoymant is involved in this day, but
On a regular basis many people wish happiness on this day as well.

I wish I could remember who penned the thread
