I was only 11 when we moved back East from KCMO but for some reason remember an electronic parts outfit they're called Burstein Applebee. That was 1965.

Great point. That was a big factor in Radio Shack’s death. I went there about 12 or 13 years ago to buy a car gps. They wanted my address. I said no. The guy insisted. I didn’t buy the gps, walked out and never returned.

At one point RS quit hiring people who knew anything about electronics.
They were hiring people who would try to pressure sell you something that you either did not need, want or know what it was or how it worked.
I quit going there before they went under.

Hey, Radio Shack even had Harley Davidson compatible parts.....

Living in the Southwest circa 1980's I burned out a generator light on my '76 Sportster. Found out the hard way when during a 30 mile ride at night it would not charge. Rode home most of the way on U.S. 60 without lights, at least the Moon was out.

That night when at home I determined the light was burned out, sealed unit (thanks AMF). So next day instead of a 175 mile trip I went to the local RS and found a pair of red indicator lights. Looked close in size. Put 'em in, good to go.

They did have some hard to find small electronics parts, then they got away from their core and stopped carrying those little parts everyone went there for, for cell phones and crap nobody wanted. Sad to see them go. Sears will be next.

Herman Munster, 1313 Mockingbird Ln. I usually gave them the number to the local radio request line.

Remember when they put out a catalog? And I recall buying a scanner from them and hoping like hell they stocked the right crystals!

Here is the Allied Radio Shack Catalog from 1971. If you're an old electronics/HAM enthusiast check it out and enjoy... Smile

So do I. Local shop that was partly a Radio Shack closed up last week. They tried to fill the gap with another brand but couldn't keep up.

Holy cow! I was just trying to remember the name of that company. They had Carlson speakers, and I don’t remember what else.

One I will not regret passing was Olsen. Shady.
