It was 70° and beautiful here in North Carolina and I FINALLY got to get a ride in whthout wearing a ton of gear. (It’s not fun riding all geared up in cold weather) It is just wild how a few weeks without riding will impact me. I get depressed, irritable and tend to just be downright miserable.

As soon as the Yamaha R1 fired up I began to feel better. I am fortunate to live in a fairly rural area with tons of country roads. I rolled out of my neighborhood like I was trailing a pace car, before long I hit a straight and decided to let the old R1 sing it’s glorious song. The visceral howl of that flat plane crank, that highpitched mechanical scream that begs you to rev it harder is addictive. It is one of the most exciting, scary and euphoric sounds I know of. I felt like a monkey hanging on for dear life to a rocket ship.

It’s been almost 10 minutes since I parked the bike and my heart is still racing. Man I feel good!!!!!!!

Nice lookin' bike ya got there stickman. Glad you got out to have a bit (lot) of fun. What brand of pipe do you have on it?

Try going flat out on an FZR600 (about 145) and getting passed by three R1s drafting each other going flat out (about 180). This happened to me in the middle of the first turn during an endurance race at Brainerd International Raceway. Getting sucked into their draft, picking up a little over 5mph for a few seconds and bouncing off the rev limiter got my heart pounding.

It was mid-40's today and (technically) ride-able, but there was so much sand, slush and running water on the roads it would have been suicidal.

I'll just have to take comfort in knowing that in July it'll be high 70's or low 80's here and approximately equal to the sun's core temperature there...

Had the HD in for service, picked it up and put in a few miles today. Mid 70,s

Trapper, that sounds wild!!! I can’t wait to go on a track day session. One day soon hopefully. I came close to picking up a GSX-R600 track bike but opted for a BMW R100 project instead. (That Might have been a bad move)

You list every reason I had to get away from bikes. There is nothing sweeter, or deadlier, and I am glad I realized it before they did me in.

The power is intoxicating but in a way sobering too. I feel like I’m constantly reminding myself not to push the R1 too hard while still allowing myself a little indulgence in the mind blowing power the bike provides.

I actually have more fun on my Bandit 400 & CB-1 because I can rev the everlasting snot out of their 400cc inline fours and still be somewhat close to the legal limit.

The R1 is a bike I rarely allow to fully stretch its legs.

Just curious, what kind of R100?

Yesterday I rode my red Honda for nearly 3 hours...blowing snow off our home and rental, the old gal's place across the street and the side walks the rest of the block. Yep, exciting ride in 10* below. I hate southern peeps in the winter
