cparktdMy home town was Shelbyville. (TN)
Most natives call it "Shovel", yea, just like a dirt shovel.
Out of state once, when asked where I was from I pronounced it "Shell B Ville". An attempt to avoid confusion. The guy asked, You mean "Shovel" I replied yes, but with a curious look on my face I guess. Then he said, I used to live there!

Everybody knows Hazzard is a county, not a city.

Just as well that none of you live in Wales, then.
My late Aunt Blodwen lived in Tanybwlch, not far from Rhosllanerchrugog, and on the way to her kids in Llanfihaengel-ym-Mochnant by way of Caerestyn.
tac, I've been to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and sang in a concert in Llandudno (which I did learn to pronounce--the double L is tough, though).

Here we just have Demonbreun St to tell us if you're local or not.
Also, there's LaFAYette, TN.
We can always tell when a new meteorologist comes to town. First weather report, they use the French pronunciation.
Well , it WAS named after the Marquis de Lafayette .

Beat me to it! Coming from California (where we once lived on a street named Buena Vista) to SW Virginia, I could not get used to that one!
