I installed the new one on mine. No issues.

Likely won’t hurt. I usually avoiding bios updates on stable systems unless there are security patches.

You need to weigh the benefits of a BIOS update against dealing with a failed BIOS update. In general I wouldn't update the BIOS unless you are having issues. There should be a way to turn off that notification.

Not sure how long you've been putting it off. I had three months in a row where I got the message. I finally did it and no problems. If there is a BIOS update problem, well it won't be good, maybe catastrophic. I was having problems with my Lenovo Thunderbolt dock station losing sound. If you have the Lenovo Vantage app you can turn off the updates in "Preference Settings" and turn off "Lenovo Service Bridge"

While a failed Bios update could "brick" a computer, as long as it's plugged in with a reasonable charge and you don't attempt it during a thunderstorm you should be fine. I usually update the laptops I have once a year.

You should read the 'Release Notes' for the new version/update (easily found on the Lenovo website) and determine what (if any?) issues it resolves for your specific machine/usage. Then you'll know for sure if you should install it.

Microsoft update teamed up with ASUS computers to add a BIOS update to my Asus laptop - updated fine...and with the mandatory automatic restart, bricked my F'n laptop.

No thanks. Do your machine a favor and do not accept hardware updates from microsoft. Do 'em through the manufacturers website.

Can't remember having an issue with a BIOS update, not that it can't happen.

But there are good benefits, namely security and speed, typical fixes in BIOS. If they are releasing one, then there is something they feel needs fixing.

Backup the hard drive, save you data and then have at it, most likely it will run, reboot and you'll be back posting on SF in a few minutes.
