Two thunderbolt ports aka mini display ports...one HDMI port...

If both 27 inch displays are connected with mini display to HDMI cables, the Apple magic mouse and USB wired keyboard are quite delayed in responding.

If one display is connected via HDMI and the other to mini display to HDMI, mouse and USB wired keyboard respond as desired.

2.6 GHz dual core Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1536 MB video ram...

Whyfore does my connection scheme of the displays change the responsiveness of the keyboard and mouse?

Just curious.

I have found slow/delayed peripheral response to be drive failure.

What are the respective refresh rates on the two monitors? Are they properly matched?

(System Preferences > Displays > Refresh Rate)

The monitors do not support DisplayPort connections? I have found that to be the best of all monitor hook-ups on my Macs, straight DisplayPort --> DisplayPort, best resolution and refresh rates, color gamut, etc.

The 2014 Mini does not officially support DisplayPort --> HDMI adapters. (the mini-
DisplayPort is a full DisplayPort, with all the correct wiring and signals, just a smaller connector). The 2014 does support DisplayPort to DVI, VGA, and Dual-link DVI adapters.

Refresh rates were 60 Hz, and I dropped them to 50 Hz as a first step with the display port to hdmi cables. Seemed better for a moment.

Monitors do not support display port. One samsung, one hp.

Thanks for the technical insights. I have now an official excuse to purchase two new monitors that are Display Port input. Maybe I can find a mate to my Dell!

Good luck with your search. Were it me, I would look for a 16x10 aspect ratio monitor, which is what all monitors used to be before switching over to 16x9. The extra vertical real estate is quite nice. For a 27" monitor, that would be 2560x1600, vs 2560x1440.

For future reference, hardware specs on all Apple devices back to the 1990s are at EveryMac.com. (iPhone/iPads, Displays & watches also)

You said it. My old Dell 24"s are 16x10 ratio and I really miss it.
