Lots of good suggestions here as always. Out of all the watches I have, the ones that really have the most bang for the buck are Steeldive, I know they are out of China but for around $100, Seiko movement, great lume, sapphire crystal and lots of different Seiko Rolex homages. My brother has a friend with a Submariner who was so impressed with the Steeldive Sub he had, he asked me to order him one.

The Kamasu would be an excellent first watch and so would a Tissot SeaStar 1000. I am going to buy my first dive watch this Christmas and the only reason I am not getting a SeaStar is because I already have a Tissot PRX and I want a little variety. That said, it’ll be another Swatch Group brand so I am not straying too far.

I am looking forward to getting a Certina DS Action in 38mm.

Post a price point. Honestly, a quartz watch is a much better option below a certain amount.

Not necessarily true any longer, unless you're talking sub-$50ish.

You can get decent quality autos for as low as ~$70-$90 these days, through companies like Steeldive, Pagani, and Addiesdive. These Chinese autos have started to dominate the sub-$100 watch market, punching well above their price points with Seiko movements, sapphire crystals, decent fit and finish, etc.

(Though I think the ~$45 Casio Duro quartz is still right about the best bang-for-the-buck in a sub-$100 dive watch.)

Thanks again for all of your suggestions. I ended up going with an Orient Mako 3 with a grey dial. I likes the looks of the face and it has a sapphire crystal. Got it in a BF deal at Long Island Watch.

An excellent choice, Orient makes some fantastic watches.
