The Pilot, Odyssey and Ridgeline all use the same chassis with some modifications of course. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

I am new to the true SUV scene. Just bought a '19 4Runner SR5 two months ago. We had an Outback for eight years that we got rid of last year due to head gasket/CVT concerns. Consumer Reports rips the 4Runner for clumsy handling, excessive lean when cornering, and rough ride on pavement. I don't find any of this to be true. It doesn't handle like my Miata, but it feels stable and is comfortable. It doesn't even feel too awkward when I've tried some minor emergency maneuvers. I'm not big on vehicle electronics so it has about the right level to suit me. It's kind of surprising that navigation is included as it is the base model. The mileage isn't stellar, but I knew that going in. It seems to stay right around 18 mpg but there hasn't been any extended highway driving. Given the reliability history, cargo capacity and resale value I'm pretty happy so far.

As I think I mentioned. We already have a Toyota Gen1 Tundra. She wants an SUV. Which our old Sub is getting old. And this one is a lot smaller. But still gives us a back set and a cargo area inside the vehicle. Looks like a 4Runner it will be. I hope to be able to score a Venture model for $40k. We'll see in a few months. I don't think I have to work hard at this. Seems a good portion of the forum is on the same train I also want to say that this has been excellent for our needs over 16k miles in 1 year with at least 1/3 of those miles on the semi-improved dirt roads to our property. Besides, I don't want to bring up what you brainwashed me into.....<cough> Kubota x2 </cough>......<cough> Stihl </cough>....... Shall I go on? The 4 Runner is a great vehicle, and the the Highlander is as well. You could get a V8 engine/6 speed transmission version of the 4 Runner by stepping up to a Lexus GX460. They have been offering decent discounts on them in my area, can be had for around $50,000 Just a thought...

Thanks Guys, Sigo-you crack me up. Plus it is a ton of fun chatting with you. That TRD Pro is beautiful. Doesn't it need some kind of a bumper or heavy grille guard thingee on the front? Maxxpower, I had not thought of that. Budget, hmmmm? "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I drove a mid-1st gen Lexus GX470 (older 4.7 V8) when I was working for a dealership in college. Dumping rain & the thing just had grip for days. The Enemy's gate is down.

I was going to recommend the same. If you want more power and an improved driveline to the 4runner, check out the GX series from Lexus. Basically a 4runner with a V8. I've fourwheeled the hell out of them in AZ with zero issues.

But, bear in mind that the Lexus takes Premium fuel & actually gets worse MPG (if that makes a significant difference in your purchase). According to fueleconomy.gov 2017 GX460 - 4.6 V8: 15/18 city/hwy 2017 4Runner 4WD 4.0 V6: 17/20 city/hwy Estimates show about 35% higher fuel cost in the GX, if my math is right, based on Houston fuel prices. YMMV, obviously. No doubt the GX will be the more comfortable ride, but at greater overall expense. The Enemy's gate is down.

4Runners are great just too small for me. I'd rather have a 2 year old 4x4 Yukon. V8 baby

4 Runner is your only real choice. Can’t go wrong. It’s extremely well thought out and proven rig that will last forever. Resale value is excellent if you ever actually wanted to sell it. Many people keep them a long long time. They are made in Japan and truly are the best that Toyota has to offer. !~God Bless the U.S. Military~!
