bcereussLetter from my father to his parents from WWII.
I’ve come across these articles in the past, and even though my (long deceased) father was not killed in action, I thought I’d post this for Memorial Day…and I know it’s not Veteran’s day today!
I knew he was a Marine, and I knew he saw some action, but doing a little research into the troop transport and the battle of Okinawa, I found out he was in the thick (or very close to the thick) of the fighting.
Anyway, I’m kind of proud, and I thought I’d share.
My father is second from the right.

architectAnd Memorial Day! I wish I had such documents from my Dad, who served with the OSS in WWII, but, if they ever existed, they are gone along with him almost 45 years now (not lost in combat). My family still holds much love and gratitude for all he did for the world, our country, and our family.

G-ManWhat a great letter! I was stationed on Okinawa in 1989. I had a
much different experience 44 years after your Father was there. Thank you for sharing, and Semper Fi!

shovelheadMy dad served in WWII, started in the Signal Corps and from what he said an altercation with a sergeant awarded him with a transfer to the 10th Armored and Field Artillery. Last campaign he was in was Bastogne with a side hospital trip.
