flesheatingvirusWhataburger sold..... Bummer!
They have one of the better fast food level burgers, especially the NM green chile double. I’ll be curious to see how this pans out.

Rick LeeAre there any success stories of private equity firms buying out smaller restaurant chains and actually improving them? I'd be surprised. I love WB, go there all the time. But I don't have high hopes for this.

Thanks. I'll need to try it out. Luckily, there's one close to the house. And, even better, one right at work. In fact, I'm gonna try it today for lunch. All this burger talk makes my mouth water, already.

Dick Portillo sold his chain to an investment group. Although he retained all the land rights (I think). I’ve been eating there for decades, and I haven’t noticed a change in quality. It really is a golden goose. I can imagine why they would mess with it.

SRIf this is really about growth the private equity owner will want the quality to say in place. They probably plan to grow the business and sell out in 4 or 5 years. Time will tell, but it's too early for doom and gloom.

I think President Trump would agree with you, flashguy.

I read that he likes his steak so well done that it rocks on the plate.

92fstechI really like Whataburger, and as a northerner, I only get it once a year or so when we're in FL. Every time we are down there I make it a point to go at least once. It's probably the best fast food burger out there, and IMO beats out numerous more expensive restaurant burgers I've had. I hope they don't mess it up, but I won't be holding my breath.

I want no pink in any of my meat (gray is OK). I also don't want it burnt (and it is possible to meet both my desires if one is careful).

oddballI have developed a love for Whataburger since moving here. I eat fancy schmancy burgers too. But nothing beats a decent fastfood one and Whataburger is the one, along with In N Out. Hate to see it it owned by Chicago folks.

az4783054I like Whataburger. I don't think an investment firm will taste as good.
As a side note, our dog likes Blue Buffalo and he's a picky eater. We just found out that General Mills bought out that family business.

I have never even seen a Whataburger place, did not know there are any in Florida. Just checked their website, it appears that there are none within four hours of the Orlando area.
