Not sure what the hell PLAN 164 was doing as he cut right across 3104's bow unless they were expecting them to give-to and maintain a port-side position against the Philippine ship. Either way, both ships are gonna have to head back to the yard, 3104 had to shut themselves down ASAP, looks like she was taking on water in a major way.

Thinking the same thing. It really doesn't make any sense. I guess that's why they call them "accidents". And total incompetence.

Chinese Destroyer Rips Bow Off Chinese Coast Guard Cutter During Intense Harassing Maneuvers

A handful of commenters posted some good screen shots of the damage to both ships.

3104 is going to need to spend the next year in the yard after this, and depending on how they managed its flooding perhaps longer. PLAN 164 has some Titanic quality scraps/rips/tears down its hull and possibly its port stern as it smacked 3104 a second time after contact.

There are people who claim the US Coast Guard and US Navy don’t get along.

I wonder if the 3104 was “exceeding his orders” and 164 intervened to stop 3104.

Agreed.
The PGC cutter *did* offer assistance to the ChiComs after the collision, but I saw no indication that Mao's Navy accepted... for some reason...

At 00:37 there is what appears to be red splashes in the water against the destroyer’s bow at the water line.

I kinda doubt that was the issue.

I love the part where the guy drops a buffer float over the bow of the CG boat… as if it was going to make ANY difference in the collision… and the offer of assistance by the Philippine coastie was priceless Big Grin

Could be the two or three guys that were flipping a giant fender over the bow of the coast guard ship just before the collision.

Sal has some video from one of the media members who was on board the Philippine Coast Guard cutter, it shows some different angles. Some of the stills show damage in detail Eek

I don't recall Cold War bumper-play being this severe....except when Kitty Hawk ran-over a Soviet submarine around mid-80's Wink

I can tell you what happened to the crew standing in the front of the Corvette. Look at the bow wave of the "Destroyer Class" ship @ 8:24. It's bow wave goes red. Good.

That larger boat was TRYING to Filipino boat in half.
They are trying to create an "incident".

How long before the Filipinos ask for a US navy presence?
