Setting up Outlook 2010...HELP! New computer build...

erj_pilotSetting up Outlook 2010...HELP! New computer build...
OK...so I decided it was time to upgrade the computer in my office to Windows 10. Not a big deal...swap out a motherboard here, throw in the new video card there, load a fresh install on my SSD here...all is well. EXCEPT for when I go to install Microsoft Office/Outlook 2010.
I get the software downloaded and installed just fine and I have my .pst file from my old hard drive that I can copy over to the new Outlook directory. The problem is, when I create my e-mail profile (Comcast/Xfinity), Outlook creates a default "Outlook" profile that I don't want to see. IOW...there's a mailbox for "Outlook" and also a mailbox for my Xfinity account. I only want one profile (mine) and Outlook to "see" my Xfinity account only.
So can anyone talk me down off the ledge and give me some hints as to how to set up Outlook with my Xfinity profile without it creating its own default profile??
Thanks! Need a Xanax refill...

smschulzYou need to import it not just copy it over.

erj_pilotK...let me give that a shot. What if I didn't export the .pst file from Outlook before tearing down the old system?
Thanks!

flashguyI wish you lots of luck. I have a problem with Outlook, too, but it's that Yahoo! Mail won't let Outlook access my mail any more. There is not a new version of Outlook that meets Yahoo!'s security standards, but until about a month ago there was an option in Yahoo! to authorize apps with lesser security access to my mail. That option has apparently now been removed (the control for it does not appear any longer).
I have years of messages filed in my Outlook, and very much would like to continue doing so with my e-mails. I don't want to have to use two or more mail handlers to do that, dividing my attention. I see only 3 options:
1. Finding a way for Yahoo! to allow Outlook access (unlikely)
2. Finding a new mail handler that can absorb my old Outlook information and continue using Yahoo! Mail (looking at Thunderbird)
3. Get another e-mail address from a vendor that still supports Outlook (a very time- and labor-intensive operation, as I'd have to notify dozens, if not hundreds, of contacts).
I've had my current e-mail address since soon after e-mail became popular. I
really don't want to change it.

A PST copied over or over the network is the same, when you import it ~ it will be sucked into your current profile's PST ~ merged if you will.
You could however rename the old pst to .old and copy over the old pst to the same location with the same name but importing may have better results.
An import will be desired if the account is O365 that way the email is imported back to the server where it keeps the files.
If it is just an IMAP or POP3 then the email will stay on your computer.

airbubbawhen outlook creates a new profile, you can still declare the other default.
get a usb hard drive enclosure & you can recover the old pst file.

erj_pilotAfter a lot of clicking, web searching, uninstalling, reinstalling, cursing, hammer threatening, more clicking, copying, pasting, cursing, importing, exporting...I FINALLY got Outlook setup with the profiles I want and the way I want them. With NO extra default "Outlook" profile.
So here goes situation #2...
I just noticed that when I pulled up Outlook on my laptop, it downloaded a couple of messages I had already received and deleted from my primary PC...I don't want that to happen. Once I download messages onto my primary PC, I want them gone so they won't be downloaded elsewhere. So what settings are there in either Outlook or on Comcast's web site to make that happen?
Also, before I did this upgrade to Windows 10, whenever I got e-mail on an Apple device (iPad or iPhone) via Xfinity Connect APP, the message would stay in the Inbox on that device until I accessed Outlook on my primary system. Then when I accessed Xfinity Connect on that device again, the Inbox messages would self-purge. That isn't happening now, as I have to manually purge the Inbox on these devices. Guess I have the same question as above about settings.
Thanks again, omnipotent SIGforum!

stoic-oneIn your account settings for each account, under "account name and sync settings", there should be a check box labelled "Leave a copy on server", is that box checked?

1. What kind of account is set up? POP3, IMAP, O365(Exchange Online)
2. If O365: all email stays on server, available anywhere, any machine:
When deleted it is deleted everywhere
Will still be available until synchronized
3. IMAP: pretty much the same as O365
4. POP3: email is downloaded to computer and deleted off the server (by default)
In Outlook the incoming server settings tab has deletion policies configuration.
Syncing in addition to a schedule it can happen at when you log on.
Example: Computer A deletes the logs off. Computer B comes online but the deletion does not appear.
When Computer A comes back online then the deletion is complete for Computer B.

My apologies for my ignorance, but I don't see a "sync settings" selection in my account details.

Again...excuse my ignorance, but I don't see that.
