As British politics since Brexit have already had a distinct Italian touch - a country where governments since WW II have lasted an average of 13.5 months - and looking at the backstabbing in Ms. Melonis prospective coalition before she has even formed one herself, that might not improve things.

OTOH, at this point it probably wouldn't make it worse either.

Breaking: Trussed

Steve Hayward at Powerline Blog says the financial people wouldn't tolerate another Margaret Thatcher, did their best to do her in.

Too bad she caved on the tax breaks.

I don't really know all the ins and outs but this essentially was a very ill-timed tax cut plan that would have only benefitted the very wealthy and done little to nothing for the average UK citizen whose power and heating bills are rapidly tripling and quadrupling and food price increases make ours look like child's play.

I think more governments are going to fall across Europe the colder and more broke and angry the people get.

Boris Johnson making a comeback? I’d consider that to be good news.

“Boris Johnson's bandwagon to settle 'unfinished business' in Downing Street looks to be gathering pace today as he vies with Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt for the top job.

With Mr Johnson flying home from holiday in the Caribbean, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has lined up behind his shock return - just six weeks after he was ousted from power amid a flood of resignations over Partygate and sleaze.

Cabinet ministers Jacob Rees-Mogg and Simon Clarke have also pledged their votes, while allies claimed MPs were 'in tears' in the Commons tea room as they realised his return is 'almost unstoppable'. Mr Johnson has been personally calling to woo colleagues and assuring them he will definitely be a candidate. …”

If a government leader actually thinks that, it is encouraging. If someone thinks that's a scandalous thing to accuse a government leader of, it is not.

Too bad we can't make such a quick change here when a leader is clearly out of their depth and incompetent.

Although I'd agree with few things our present President has said, many European countries are actually in much worse shape than us by almost every measure and things could get ugly in the not too distant future. Especially overseas.

“Boris Johnson has sensationally quit the Tory leadership contest citing the need to 'unite' the party, despite claiming he reached the 'very high hurdle of 102 nominations' - as Rishi Sunak could be crowned Prime Minister tomorrow with rival Penny Mordaunt short of the 100 backers threshold.

The former PM tonight said continuing his bid to return to No10 was 'simply not the right thing to do' after unsuccessfully reaching out to his two main rivals in an attempt to make a pact. But both Mr Sunak and Ms Mordaunt turned down an alliance, with Penny insisting 'I'm in it to win it'. …”
