Put the box in a box, mark it "gun box inside", and it will be fine.

egregoreDepending on the environmental conditions in your attic, you may want to store them in a reasonably airtight plastic box. Cardboard can disintegrate, as can foam lining if moisture hits it.

HRKKept most of mine, they are generally plastic, I do trade some guns from time to time, JMO having the box is better.
I do keep the Sig Tiffany Blue boxes from the days of yore... Those were awesome.

FredwardThe original box, especially with papers and accessories like the target or loading tool, adds 10 to 50 bucks to the resale value. I usually keep mine.

9mmepiphanyI've always kept the boxes of all the guns I've ever owned except the ones I bought second hand which didn't come with a box.

I don’t have watch boxes but yeah, keep the gun boxes.
Since my wife is 14 yrs younger than me and likely to outlast me, I told her that the original box adds value when she wants to sell the extras she has no use for.
Especially the old blue cardboard S&W boxes that still have the screwdriver and owners manual.

Never say never so keep the box so long as it's not taking up much space. I started buying guns back in 1997 or so and have always kept the box.

This is my belief as well.
I believe that having the box implies the owner took care of the firearm.

konata88Thanks guys. Overwhelmingly keep the boxes it seems. I'll put them up in the attic for now. I don't really have much space hence the thought. It gets well into triple digits up there though. I assume it'll be okay.
