well, it's 9/11... at first, I thought - what a terrible day. Then after much more consideration, I remember so much to be thankful for.

My father...WWII/Korea Vet. Only mentioned his combat time once, about a year before his passing.

My Mom..Spent WWII hiding in the subway bomb shelters riding out the Battle of Britain in Birmingham, UK.

My oldest brother, spent part of the cold war guarding the Fulda Gap, riding his enlistment out in armored recon (Third Div).

My older brother..retires next month from Boeing, making aircraft parts.

My oldest son...develops computer programming for medical labs for automated procedures.

My youngest...BEST damn MARINE I know. Semper fidelis

Me? I retired from a state police agency in 2014, took some time off to get my head back on and now enjoy a good job in a different state.

My wife ? well, damn...she is the glue that held all this mess together for years and years.

Where was I on 09/11 ? I had worked the night shift..went to bed..my wife woke me up to tell me of the attack..we kept our boys home from school that day.

so the point?
1. NEVER FORGET 9-11 !
2. THANK A VET
3. HOLD YOUR FAMILY DEAR and NEAR.
4. FLY THE RED/WHITE/BLUE HIGH AND PROUD TODAY.

My wife was supposed to in a meeting that morning in one of the towers. The meeting got rescheduled, so she wasn't even in NY that morning, wasn't on a plane.

I'm thankful every day.

Thank you for your post and the service you and your family provided us with!
I was in the WTC at 6 pm 9/10 catching a train home with my daughter. On 9/11 we loaded our trucks with medical supplies and equipment and delivered it to the Jersey City Staging area. On 9/12 EVERY employee was donating Blood.
It was a devastating period for all of us.
God Bless America.

I was in Mr. Patels Algebra class, 9th grade. My dad was supposed to be in the train station under the towers that morning, as he has an office a block away but ended up missing his train. We did however lose a close family friend in tower 2 on the 104th floor. She was on the phone with her mom when the first plane hit.. they were told not to leave their desks.

One of the darkest days I can remember, but seeing all the flags and everyone supporting each other afterwards really blew my mind.

I was in Mrs. Tortorella's French class when we heard of the attacks.

My father was supposed to be in a meeting in one of the towers but had a toothache and went To the dentist instead. 18 of his coworkers died.
My mother was working a temp job in NYC and got off the subway and saw the second plane hit.
When I heard the news I thought both of my parents would be among the deceased as they both were working in the immediate area.

Here in far-off UK, a family living a hundred yards down the street lost their only son in the North Tower.

No trace of him was ever found.

Saw the attack on TV that morning. Went to work and learned that some inmates on one cell block were cheering the towers being hit and collapsing.

Shift Caption went into that population block with a bullhorn and announced: "STFU, or I'll put all of you solitary restriction".

They got quiet.

Just glad we didn't have that pussy Al Gore in the White House and, for awhile at least, we were able to shove some vengeance up the the terrorists asses without a whole lotta red tape.

Sadly, those days are gone.

I was in 10th grade biology class on the far east end of long Island. my dad worked in clinical engineering at the time, there was a call that went out for all the equipment that could be spared to get to Manhattan. Dad drove a truck load of stuff in, he had a NYSP escort the entire way.

he said that hospital looked like a warzone and you had a hard time telling the living from the dead as people lined the halls. and the floors were covered in blood.

This is a very sad, humbling day for me. Other than being an American I was untouched physically far away here in Texas. I'm always torn between watching the coverage that's on the TV, or remembering the day quietly in my head. Like all of you I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. I was thinking this morning while I took my six year old girl to school, how will I explain this to her someday?

I was working afternoon shift that day but I had to go in for a warrant application appointment at 10:00am. I had just got up and turned on the TV, watching them talk about the first plane that hit WTC when the second plane came into the camera view and the struck the second tower.

Shock, sadness, anger, frustration don't begin to describe my feelings that day.

Does everyone remember the week after, with no planes in the sky? Just think of what air travel would have been if the terrorists had been successful in the Bojinka Plot .

I was working.

We were having an all day off sight management meeting.

My boss refused to cancel the meeting, regardless of how distracted we were.

As an aside...while not a fan of their beer, they do make good commercials. This one elicits a small tear whenever I see it.

I was in my office in MD getting some things together before I had to leave for some work in DC. Someone stuck their head in and said a plane had hit one of the towers. I figured it was a small private plane like a Cessna.

Left soon after that for DC with a co-worker. Turn on DC101 for the drive into the city. Hard the news and made a detour to my house to turn on the TV. Sat there with a co-worker and watched the towers fall.

For those that know the area, I live inside the beltway about a mile from the DC line. After the towers had fallen I drove my coworker back to the office and went to get my GF at the time from her office. After that, we went back to our place.

I may have been armed when I went to drop off my coworker and pick up my GF. Being right next to DC there was worry that there could be more attacks and possibly something other than planes.

We had planes over my house for the first time for a few weeks after 9/11. Although they were AF with weapons hanging off their wings.

We are personal with this. My wife worked the Pentagon crime scene for 10 days of 10 hour shifts. Her chief deployed her to the Pentagon crime scene for 10 days. With her cadaver-detection k9, they were able to identify 108 of the 188+ victims. There were other ( approximately 40) dog teams involved, and with their help, the FBI was able to close the crime scene in 3 wks, vs. their initial estimate of 3 months.
