TL;DR:

The Apple devices that reportedly must complete the upgrade to stay online are the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad Retina Display, 4th gen iPad. Those with iOS 10.3.4 and iOS 9.3.6 and any iOS released after this will stay connected and do not need to upgrade.

And if you do upgrade, your battery life will be dramatically shorter, and your phone won’t work worth a shit. At least, that has been my experience with apple’s swell upgrades.

I'm calling bull. Go to Apples web site, and you can get the list of iPhones, and iPads that will not update to iOS 13. They just won't update. There is nothing mentioned about them not working.

Oh it's real, and not just for iPhones. It CAN affect any device using GPS built before 2016. iPhones (unlike some other devices) can avoid the issue completely via a software update. Verizion has suggested it's users with older phones upgrade their phones. Roll Eyes

EDIT to add:
If you don't update an affected iPhone before the cutoff you will have to do so via tethering it to a Mac or Windows PC.
