I have a 42 year old GE still going strong. They don't make them like they used to. SIGnature NRA Benefactor CMP Pistol Distinguished

And I say anything BUT GE!!! Every appliance we've had of theirs since 2105, new house, has been a problem. Washer, dryer, stove, and refrigerator. Dishwasher is a Bausch, no probs. In fact we just replaced our GE washer with a Speed Queen. Before throwing it to the curb after 7 yrs. of service I had already replaced the motherboard once, a hot water valve, and there was something else with the POS, which I guess I've blocked from memory. It's just too bad the wife didn't listen to me the first time around. F-GE!!! Foster's, Australian for Bud

I had this dilemma last week. The parts guy suggested Whirlpool and Frigidaire based upon part availability, reliability and ease to repair. While he wasn't a big fan of GE since the Chicom take over, he's been happy to see the quality improve and believes GE is a good product. Like other said, we went with what was in stock. We get a side by side GE from Lowe's this Thursday. Bought an extended warranty for 5 or 6 years - and I never buy the extended warranty. P229

Knowing is Half the Battle |
We are going through this right now because the ice maker on our 18 year old Maytag went out, looking to replace everything in the kitchen because all of the appliances work but have small "issues" plus datedness. Wife wants to go dual fuel for the stove, first we looked at Bosch but they only have counter depth fridges. She was looking at Dacor, but that is just pricey Samsung so I have my reservations. Then she was looking at GE but our friend has had nothing but problems with their fridge. Now she is pondering Thermador, but there was some issues with that as well. She has this idea we have to go moderately high end with the tab for fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher running around $10K, maybe that's right, I don't know. I spend money on alot of dumb stuff, so I don't criticize that much, but whatever she buys MUST BE 100% RELIABLE or as close to that as possible in these times. Our current appliances are all black, that's a nonstarter on alot of things in these supply chain impaired times. Also, so many companies only have counter depth fridges. We have 3 kids, there is no way that will work, especially with all of these little pockets and nooks in them. Where do I stick 3 large pizza boxes because they each want their own type of pizza but only eat 2 slices? I need room to fit a week worth of leftovers for me to eat because nobody else will.

I will second this. Our house, built 5 years ago, came with Frigidaire Gallery appliances. The fridge is a side-by-side and we prefer a french-door. So we bought another fridge and put the Frigidaire in the garage. To it's credit, it is still working but the digital display went partially out within the first couple of months. The dishwasher has to be thoroughly cleaned every month or two as it starts to build up quite a bit of mold over time. Unfortunately, the french-door fridge that we purchased was an LG. We had one in our previous house and had been quite pleased with it. Several months ago, it started making some very strange noises but continued to function so we just ignored it. Well, in the last couple of weeks, it had started to warm up very slowly. So slowly that it wasn't noticeable until yesterday. Foods didn't seem as cold and the ice in the door had fused together twice in the last week. I called the good local repair place and they said they won't touch an LG refrigerator because of all of the problems with them. The gal told me that there was a class action lawsuit if I wanted to pursue that. Looking online, the lawsuit was settled at least a couple of years ago. It required LG to extend the warranty out to five years on fridges made in 2014-2017 so it is almost expired. My concern is that even if they have repair parts available, they will be the same crappy parts that have already failed meaning that we would be facing this issue again within a couple of years. Plus, who knows what availability and prices will be like then. The repair shop said that Best Buy and Home Depot seem to have the best selection so I scrambled online looking for a replacement. Based on previous posts in this forum, I looked for both Whirlpool and KitchenAid. Wow, availability is still really bad right now. I found a KitchenAid at Best Buy, the largest one I could get, and there were only two left in stock at this location. So I bought it online and set up delivery for next week. The Frigidaire in the garage is packed full now but it will only be for a short time. Damn, the timing on this wasn't very good as I am currently unemployed but I felt it was better to shell out for a new one now since it appears that prices will only be going up from here on out. My vote: stay away from Frigidaire and LG, for sure.

Our Fridigaire makes strange noises like someone is talking in the other room.

My 50+ year old GE fridge finally died in November. When my father heard about it he jokingly said "If I knew it was only going to last sixty years I never would have bought it!" I still haven't replaced it. Been making due with a little.. not "mini" fridge, but a small thing I got for free, to be honest, it hasn't been awful. I certainly wasn't using all the room in the old one.

My Bosch fridge is not counter depth. But it is a piece of shit. Bosch appliances suck. All of them for one reason or another. Dishwasher is fairly okay. These go to eleven.

Avoid any with an LG compressor. Appliance will croak in less than two years. Mine did.
