A suspect was killed and a second wounded in a home invasion-robbery early Monday in Northeast Philadelphia’s Mayfair section, police said.

Police were called to the row house on the 7100 block of Walker Street about 4:15 a.m. and found a wounded suspect in the yard.

Two men had broken into the house armed and demanding money, police said. One man was shot and jumped out of a second floor window while another got away.

Officers took the wounded man found in the yard to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:01 a.m

The second suspect arrived at Nazareth Hospital in private vehicle with unspecified gunshot wounds. His condition was not immediately known, police said.

An initial police report indicated that only a woman was in the house when the robbery occurred, but it did not say who shot whom.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
Detectives were questioning the woman who was in the house when the robbery occurred.

It would be nice if the cops bought her a doughnut and coffee plus a box of her ammo!
I’d gladly give the cops the money needed for such a good deed.

That's going to take a lot of investigating, isn't it?

"An initial police report indicated that only a woman was in the house".

I suspect that a male, possibly a drug dealer, was there for the night. He may have been the target for the home invasion, fired in self defense, and then fled the house. It would be interesting to learn the rest of the story.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police say a man shot two men, one fatally, who broke into a home in the Mayfair section of the city. It happened on the 7100 block of Walker Street, shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Police say two masked gunmen forcefully entered the residence in what they believe is narcotics motivated.

Police say they stole a cellphone from a 9-year-old boy and held a gun to a 33-year-old woman’s head inside her bedroom and demanded money.

According to Philadelphia Police Capt. Jason Smith, a man believed to be the woman’s boyfriend shot the the two suspects when they were about to leave the home.

“As the gunmen were prepared to exit the residence, an unidentified person interrupted the robbery and fired upon the home invaders, striking both of them,” Smith said.

One of the suspects jumped out of a second-story window after being shot in the back and leg. He was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A second suspect, 24-year-old Elvin Laureano-Uviera, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Both of the suspects have had prior arrests.

Smith says the man who shot the suspects wasn’t in the bedroom when the robbery occurred. They believe he either arrived at the home or was down in the basement because the robbers did not see him when they first broke in.

Smith added it appears right now the man who shot the suspects won’t face a murder charge.

A 1-year-old was also inside the home at the time of the invasion and robbery. The woman and her two children were not injured during the incident.

The dead suspect’s name has not yet been released.

Why are they "two masked gunmen" but later they are suspects?

And why is the dead guy a "dead suspect" and not a "dead gunman" or "dead home invader?"

Friggin' nonsense with the language, but good ending.
