Glacier Bay Kitchen Faucet - Okay or Avoid? (updated page 2)
My 15-ish YO Moen kitchen faucet is leaking out the bottom. It supposedly has a lifetime warranty. I'm working with them, but I'm not sure how useful they'll be. In the mean time, I'm strongly considering replacing it, since I now essentially can't use my kitchen.
I went to Home Despot, and found a Glacier Bay faucet that looks like it will work. AFAIK, this is HD's store brand. Given that we have a lot of DIY type guys, not to mention some actively into construction, has anyone bought any of the Glacier Bay products, and seen how the function and hold up? The particular model is their Market kitchen faucet with pull out sprayer. This message has been edited. Last edited by: BBMW,

I would consider it more like a Builder Grade than something more elite. More promotionally priced type of product IMO.

I have a GB faucet in my main powder room. Been ~15 years so far, no issues.

I can't comment on Glacier Bay faucets, but I've had great luck w/ Moen's lifetime warranty. The kitchen faucet finish was bubbling off. I took a picture and sent it to Moen fully expecting to get a "that's not covered..." - That's not what happened. It took a few days, but they did send a replacement part which was pretty easy to install. In my case, the faucet was put in when the builder built the house in 2003. I'm the original owner, but did not have any paperwork. That wasn't an issue for them.

They're sending me a valve cartridge. They say it can take up to fifteen days to arrive, and I think I ordered it last Wednesday. Thing is, I'm pretty convinced replacing the cartridge won't fix it, and they insist it will. I also want my kitchen back. On the flip side, I'd love to not have to cram myself under the sink and have to do the replacement job (may sink installation is worse than normal for this job.)
I might wait a day or two more, but at some point, if the cartridge doesn't show up, I'll replace the faucet.

Run do not walk away from Glacier Bay Faucet. It's junk.
Glacier Bay is HD's house brand. The Glacier Bay faucets I've seen are made extremely cheap.

Have you seen failures, or just the impression of lack of quality?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I had bought a Glacier Bay faucet from Home Depot. The person working that section said don't buy, they come back all the time. A year later I spent the money and bought A Moen. The Glacier Bay started leaking, I was given replacement parts for free, but a month later it started leaking again.

look at Kohler instead, buy from a plumbing supply house...you may pay a little more but the quality will be there.

^^^This. Glacier Bay products are great in rental homes as rentals take a lot of abuse, and these are relatively inexpensive to replace.
I'd opt for Kohler or Moen at home.

I have a 7 year old glacier bay faucet in the bathroom. Because the old garbage one that came with the house broke. It's a dumb size so I put another in, because.
I wouldn't say they're great, but you'll probably be ok. Maybe. It's "roll the dice" quality.

I tend to buy better grade stuff because I HATE laying under the kitchen sink changing faucet sets.

I have one in my bathroom, I have it because money. I put it in over a decade ago, no problems. I would never buy one if another choice is available, but at the time I was very poor and did a thousand dollar bath remodel, I think I borrowed $800 of it. All that said zero problems, leaks, or finish issues. I think it was an extremely good value, but I was probably lucky.
The glacial bay shower head on the other hand, complete shit. Was replaced very shortly after installing it

Both. If you look at them compared to a Kholer, American Standard or Meon you will see a difference.
I'm not saying they don't work but more than a normal number compared to other brands fail early in my experience.
You could get a good one. Luck of the draw says more will work then don't but if you can afford a better brand you will likely save yourself some time and money in the long run.

From what I understand GB are made for HD by several manufactures. When you try to get parts it's difficult.

Any brand at HD is not the same as the ones you can get at a supply house. HD and other larger buyers can get special runs of product for them. You can see the same thing in TVs, Samsung for instance makes it easy to tell, the last two numbers in part no. tell you if it's a special configuration.

THIS! I've replaced Glacier Bay faucets that were only a year or two old and leaking from the body or where they swivel. I think Moen's quality, while still good has dropped a tad and prefer kohler.

What’s it worth to you NOT to have a flooded house, and get to replace all flooring and partial lower drywall? Don’t buy questionable plumbing parts...just not worth it.

Same here. The cartridges for the kitchen sink last a few years and are pretty easy to replace. A few years ago when I ordered the second cartridge for the same faucet I asked how many times I could order a cartridge. The rep patiently explained "As many as you need for as long as you have the faucet." Moen is well worth the money, IMHO.
