Do---or do not. There is no try. |
Okay, I'm getting the nonstop message on my MacBook Pro screen to upgrade to this new OS. As we all know, every new operating system swears that part of the upgrade is that it fixes bugs in the old OS, except that we find out the new OS has bugs of its own. So---anybody downloaded this one yet?

Here you go: Don't forget to run Time Machine before you upgrade. https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...540094744#7540094744 ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. I’m running it on an iMac with an i7 & 24GB RAM. It’s running fine for me. No new quirks that I have run across, so far. ———- Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for thou art crunchy and taste good with catsup.

I upgraded a 2012 MacBook Air (8GB) and a 2017 MacBook Pro (16GB). Both upgraded without error. I have a few small utility programs that either needed to be upgraded or needed to have additional permissions set before they would work, but all major programs (and I have a lot!) work without fail. Some apps apparently are being updated to support Dark Mode, but that's cosmetic eye candy and not something functional. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member

I upgraded my Mac Mini and it is now extremely slow to boot up. It used to boot in seconds but now takes minutes. Apparently it is a fairly common problem.

We are still using El Capitan on all the Macs in our family. OS X upgrades to new versions are free, but there’s a “gotcha” — some paid apps that we use would require paid updates in order to move forward from El Capitan. Things are stable now and as long as they continue to get the job done for us I see no reason to make major changes. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Slightly off topic: Did anyone notice the screen/desktop with the widgets went away with this upgrade? Sorry, I can't think of the proper term for it. It was a slide left from the 1st desktop. BTW, Mojave is running fine on my machine. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Storm, Loyalty Above All Else, Except Honor ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

El Capitan was a very nice OS version. The only issue I see with still running it is the lack of any more security updates. Apple issues security updates for the current version (10.14.x) and the two prior versions, so El Capitan (10.11.x) has just rolled off the security update schedule. My personal choice for upgrading is to wait out the year of the current version until it reaches its final point version (10.14.5 or 10.14.6), which will be next August/September just before they release the next new version. Then I do a clean install from a USB stick with that version. Mohave seems to be one of the more stable of recent versions in its first release (I am running it on an external SSD that I will keep updated, to see how it progresses). My main machines will remain on High Sierra, though. I grew tired of playing the game of updating each point version during the development of a new version. It's supposed to be already "developed" via the beta process, but there are still changes coming and bugs to be fixed. I'll just wait until they finish it. When in doubt, mumble
