I need a new woodstove for my shop. It is 2000sq ft. Well insulated. I am replacing 20 year old quadrafire. I am tired of screwing with their door handle situation. It is a known issue and I have been dealing with it long enough. Stove itself has been pretty good actually. I can still but the same stove. And I might for $2300. But I would like to spend less if possible. I really do not care about the epa efficiency BS. Just want a pedestal stove. I would love a built in Idaho Kuna but not for $3500. Let me know if you have some thoughts. Thanks guys.

For a shop, I'd be inclined to go with a double barreled stove with a fan. If you're handy, they're not difficult to build yourself for really cheap. They sell kits with all the parts you'd need. Otherwise, some outfits sell them already built for a lot less than a traditional stove.

If you can get your hands on a Fisher PaPa or Grandpa stove you will be solid. I run a Papa in a smaller shop space, insulated and moderate temps, it does me fine with an overhead fan. No catalytic but a sheet of steel inside helps reburn,plenty of stuff on the web to help. 2K is a big space. Research helps with the Fishers.

We had a Fisher Papa in an old 1700’s farm house we rented when I was in college in NH. That was a serious stove and we burned 7 cords of wood one winter. Lots of good memories!

Whatever you do, remember that the stove efficiency goes up 3x when the combustion air is brought in from the outside. The intake air vent is sometimes in the bottom of the stove, so is not noticeable.

I was going to say go with a Blaze King or a Jotun, but.......you won't find either in your price range. Might be able to find a used Blaze King in that range, but it won't be catalytic. For your shop size you'd need a King 40. But you can fit a ton (not really, but 70-80 pounds) of wood in the firebox, and it'll burn for 10 hours minimum.

I've had Quadrafire and Lopi and both were great. I prefer the extra control I had with the Quadrafire but would be more than happy with either.
