I don’t pretend to be an expert, just looked up the info from what appeared to be a reputable site. It said gallons, and since we're just having fun, I thought the idea of a $56k fill up was just too good.

So we'd have the coolest limo, but we'd have to hire a driver.

todays spot pricing 1029 gallons @ $1.75/galon = $1842 a fill up

the price fluctuates, I would figure around $2.00 gallon. $2000 a fill up

Been there, done that. When I was in the F-104 business, lets just say the FAA wasn't happy to see us. This Jet has to undergo experimental aircraft certification by the FED's.Applicants must demonstrate that all aircraft systems are airworthy and maintenance is up to date, including ejection seats. This process alone took over a year with the FED's.
In the end you have to get several FAA types to sign off your experimental certificate, this was a major obstacle
back in 96. Most significantly, DOD vendors will not sell parts or work on engines, ejection seats ect due mostly
to lack of liability insurance. The list goes on and on.
BTW, IIRC the APU on that jet requires some exotic fuel to operate, I doubt that is available to civilians.
Having said all the above doesn't mean it can't be done, but it will take a strong will and the initial 8 Mil
will shrink to insignificance before your first flight. I haven't seen photos of this aircraft but two seater's sell for twice the cost of a single seat Jet.
My suggestion would be get some retired AF General on your team, certify the Jet as R&D, and obtain a DOD/NASA contract.
This is the only way to have access to DOD parts and vendors.
Think BIG, it can be done and its a Hell of a lot of FUN!

Best of luck!

Todays Average price of Jet A nationwide is $4.67 gallon

I haven't seen the Navy's current FY price for JP8 yet, but last FY it was $2.98 a gallon

$2.86 today at Our Little Airport. Self-service at the pump only, we are not a full-service facility with fuel trucks that come to your airplane.
