I've been living with four women. Three of them just left. I should be happy.
The plan worked. We sold our home in San Diego, sold our rental house in San Diego on a 1031 exchange.

For the past 6 months our daughter, her husband and their two girls, ages 8 and 5, have been living in the same rented house as us, in El Dorado Hills, CA.

Selling two houses and buying two replacement properties on the 1031 exchange took a year.

Then there were months spent fixing up the replacement home for our daughter and son-in-law; they are doing most of the work; and they are renting the house from us per the 1031 rules.

Now they have moved most of their stuff to that new house and are going to be living there.

So we had a bittersweet little time together this afternoon with the girls and our daughter. They left with the girls repeatedly calling out "I love you grandma, I love you grandpa."

The past six months have been mostly hectic, and noisy and messy in the common rented house; but we're going to miss it, and we will probably never again be spending so much concentrated time with these two girls, Audrey and Natalie.

It feels like God's grace: undeserved, unconditional love, embodied in little, beautiful, creatures who have become the center of our universe.

But the plan is working: we're living near them again; they have their own home near the charter school the girls attend; and we have money in the bank to buy a house for us near to them.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Glad to hear that you're in the calm after the storm. It's nice that you're now able to enjoy the fruits of your recent changes. Hope you can enjoy the coming autumn weather and hopefully no HOA (Smile) burdens. No ocean but seems like an enjoyable lake nearby.

The nearest big lake one can kayak on is Lake Natoma, downstream from Folsom Lake. Very nice. However, the community where our daughter's family now lives has a quiet lake big enough for an early morning kayak. I'm looking forward to that!

How wonderful! Cool

Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.

You're so lucky to have them near, seems like a perfect retirement.

Sounds like a gift, followed by a win.

Congratulations.

Hectic days with them in the house, but it's good times, and, the quiet time you'll have is good as well.

We helped the daughter and her husband buy their first home across town and when the first grandkid was born, helped them sell and move over here just a stones throw away.

So we get the grandkids every day for a bit, and during the summer a bit more, it can get crazy with both of them but it's a good thing.
