I have to go into NYC for a family event in November. LGA is definitely the most convenient airport given where I will be staying, but I have heard that it is undergoing major renovations that make it a bad choice.

I could fly into EWR but that would be a bit of an inconvenience.

Anyone been to LGA recently? Is it really bad enough to avoid it and go somewhere else?

I fly into LGA and EWR all the time, and can say both airports suck. LGA has been undergoing renovations for as long as I have been alive. A lot depends on which airline you are flying. The Southwest terminal in both airports really suck. I'd deal with LGA if it is more convenient to your destination.

I changed planes at LGA a couple of weeks ago and it was fine. It took about 40 minutes for the connecting flight to taxi and take off but it's a busy airport. If your flight terminates there I didn't see any reason to avoid it.

I flew there last month. It's fine. Takeoffs & landings are fun since the runways are short.

I flew into LGA for work a couple of weeks back.
The renovation work had no effect on either of my flights.

The wait time for a NYC taxi was over an hour.
I had a car service waiting for me. These guys have to wait in another area and you take a shuttle bus there.
I'm not sure how private cars were handling pickups.

Drop offs were right at the terminal.
Traffic was typical for NY.

My father picked me up in the 2nd section of road by baggage claim.

Fun fact: If you look at LaGuardia on Google Earth using 3D Buildings enabled, you can see Trump's private jet. It doesn't show up in 2D.

Westchester County airport (HPN) is about 20 miles north of LGA. It's smaller and much nicer than LGA and Jet Blue has direct flights from a few points in Florida.

There's only one returning flight each day and the time doesn't work for me. But thanks!

This. The SWA terminal at LaGuardia is a like an old bus station.

You can get an Uber much faster than waiting on the cab line, and they have designated pick-up spots.

Flew in two weeks ago. Flight was delayed 2 hrs due to "weather". Airport was under construction but it wasn't bad. Got an uber rather quickly. It reminded me of being in a third world country with all the porters and cabbies trying to get business.

I flew back out of JFK so can't tell you how the construction affects departure. Still not sure what people see in that city...

And depending on the approach can be over water. The most memorable landing I have ever had was coming to LGA in a howling rainstorm. The plane was bucking and we did a tight circle and came on to the runway over the water. It felt like we were going to hit the water when the runway appeared out of nowhere. It was crazy.
