First of all, I want to thank all of you who offered advice, support, etc., especially sig2340 who said I could call him any time to talk. Unfortunately, I never got around to calling as Mom's fall eclipsed any worry the dementia diagnosis created.
Mom never regained consciousness after her fall last Monday, and this morning around 6, she passed away. In many ways, I'm glad. The prognosis we'd gotten late last week said her best-case scenario was nothing resembling the life she'd want to lead, even at her age.
So once again, thank you all for the advice, encouragement and support.

My mom lost her father to a long battle with COPD. When he died, she had not one single regret, because she knew his quality of life was never going to return, and she also spent a TON of time with him over the four years or so that he battled, especially the last year or so.
I hope that you and your family are able to find closure after a crappy end to the holiday season.

I am sorry for your loss Allen. But as you indicated. It may have been a blessing. May you have peace and many warm memories of your Mom and the love you had as a family.
I am both sorry and glad for your loss. The path ahead of you and your family was avoided and it is somewhat best for as it is now. My prayers are with you. Remember and cherrish the good times. She made you a good caring son and that makes her a wonderful person.
