anyone buy glasses online.

I wear contacts and very rarely use my glasses. The pair I have are old. I would like new ones but do not want to pay the price local eye glass places want for something I wear maybe a few times a year. If I wore them everyday I would pony up.

I don't need anything fancy. Just simple lenes for an easy prescription. No special coating or this or that.

Found some places online but wondering if anyone have any experience with online vendors.

I've had several years experience with glasses from Zenni Optical and have been very happy with their prices and service. V-Tail doesn't like them, though.

ETA: my prescription is for no-line bifocals and I am extremely nearsighted (20-600) so Zenni gets a good test in making glasses for me. The last time I bought glasses from the dispensing optician in San Antonio, they were over $500. The last pair I ordered from Zenni, in a comparable frame and lens type, was around $75 delivered.

We've used Eyebuydirect.com for back up glasses several times and have never had a problem. My son actually uses Eyebuydirect.com for his everyday glasses and has never complained.

I’ve used Zenni Optical twice. Both times were no line bifocals. The first one was ok, the second they did not work, I had to return them but they will only give you a credit for the full amount or a 50% refund. I opted for the credit which my wife used on single vision glasses. She’s happy enough with hers.

For me, it’s too much risk with bifocals involved.

Been using https://www.glassesshop.com for almost 9 years now for my progressive bifocals. Looked at others including Zenni but these folks had the best selection of wide (>145mm with 145mm temples) frames. That since may have leveled out but with great customer service and the Rx always checking out as spot on, I've stayed with them.

So, a rook to this stuff myself.
Do you go to an optometrist and get your
prescription and ask for a hard copy, or what?
Isn't a big part of most places doing the exam, selling you the glasses as well?
How does that work?

Depends on the type of eye doc your seeing.

Yes I asked for a hard copy of my prescription for glasses. Didn't have a problem at all. I also got one for my contacts which is all I normally need.

I also took my old glasses in and asked them to check them and tell me what prescription they where. I really didn't know as I have had them for so long. My eye insurance sucks and really doesn't cover crap for glasses so I will pay out of pocket.

My eye doctor, an ophthalmologist, recommended against using online providers for bifocals or progressives. I have a simple prescription which had changed since the last time I visited the Doc. Ordered a few pairs from Zenni, and I can tell you I noticed an instant difference from the expensive glasses I bought from a big chain a few years ago. They worked much better! The old ones made my eyes feel wonky as if there was something wrong. I kinda wonder if that big store didn't measure my pupil distance correctly. I used a digital caliper and worked perfectly. I got 4 pairs of glasses delivered for $125. If I break or scratch these, I'll be back for more.

Yes. I have gotten glasses from a frame maker (Shuron) I like the last two times. They also have a lab. They work fine.

Costco. Their optical department beats the heck out of other "in person" places, and you get better fitting, etc., than from online.

My experience with Zenni was, I ordered without a coating. The "uncoated" lenses should have been colorless. They had a very noticeable yellow tint. I settled for a 50% refund. Once burned, twice shy.

Also, the service was really S L O W. It took well over three weeks to receive the glasses, and then about that long to receive the refund. When I returned them, tracking showed that they had been received by Zenni; their customer NO-service insisted that they had not received them yet. Of course, they had been received but not logged in yet.

Yeah most every state require that they provide you with your Rx in hard copy. One thing you also need to do is go over to their frames area and have your pupillary distance (PD) measured. Get readings for EACH eye. OD is your right, OS the left.

Only drawback is selection is very limited.

I get mine from Costco as well, but I don't understand your comment about a limited selection. The Costco I go to has at least a couple of hundred options.
