A man's got to know his limitations |
One more reason I always carry cash with me. People that rely on their card for every expense when out can have problems one day. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." I’ve had 3 kinds of replacement cards. The first kind where the card stops working (it was only strips then), no information on the card changed. The second is when the expiry on the current card is due. In that case, the expiry and card verification changed but not the card number. The third is when they close the account due to fraudulent charges and they send a new card with new number, expiry date, and security verification number. The last two kinds of replacements require you to update the different vendors’ accounts for your auto payments. Like someone else, I track which card is used for which auto payment. I also keep track of all the credit cards I have, their number, security verification, expiry date, issuing bank/company, their contact number in case I need to contact them, and where they physically are - either with me, my wife, or in the safe. The ones in the safe are the ones I never physically use but just for auto payments. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I tried two other places today with no luck. One of them being the outside ATM at the credit union. No joy. Though all these failed attempts are at least drawing some attention, I got a possible fraud text from them today. When I called today, the wait time on hold was quoted as 77 minutes. Mmmmm.. no.

Thanks, Mr. Pipe Smoker. [thumbs up] "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

My debit card does that from time to time too. I think it’s more a terminal issue and not a card issue, but most of the time if I briskly rub the chip end of the card on my shirt a bit and reinsert firmly, it works.

I have successfully requested the same card number in the past, but the new card still had different CCV and Expire date numbers, so payments set up for that CCC needed to be updated. When in doubt, mumble

That stretchy lycra that yoga pants and leggings are made of Works better than my cotton blue jeans, so I just ask friendly female shoppers for assistance. There are even places to swipe your magnetic strip. ____________________
