A New York County Clerk Is Refusing To Give Driver’s Licenses To Illegals, Despite New Law

Erie County Clerk Michael “Mickey” Kearns said he will not issue licenses to illegal aliens in defiance of a new New York Law, according to a local outlet.

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the Green Light Bill Monday, which allows illegals to obtain driver’s licenses, WIVB4 reports. Kearns adamantly disapproves of the bill. Kearns’s letter to Erie County Attorney Michael Siragusa expressed his discontent with the law’s “inconsistency to federal law.” He also said, “I will not be granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants” and he expects to be sued by the state “either way.”

Kearns is one of the most outspoken critics of the bill in the Empire state, but public opinion appears to favor his point-of-view. A Sienna College Poll concluded that 53% of New Yorkers opposed Green Light before it became law.

“The only reason to be against this all along has been xenophobia and fear,” said Jennifer Connor, an organizer for Green Light.

“We will come after you if you don’t uphold the law because of racism and xenophobia,” Connor also said.

Kearns told a local outlet that Green Light is a direct violation of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which gave illegal immigrants the opportunity to obtain legal status in exchange for barring them from government welfare assistance.

Another argument he brought up was the absence of funding for training. He says his office will not be able to read or differentiate between “195 passports,” the outlet reported.

Connor said there are more than 900,000 illegals in New York, 200,000 of which may apply to the DMV.

“The law is well crafted and contains ample protections for those who apply for driver’s licenses. As the state’s attorney and chief law enforcement officer, my office will vigorously defend it,” New York State Attorney General Letitia James told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

It is clearly obvious why the left wants to give illegals a valid form of state recognized ID. More leftist votes.

Trump should be all OVER this, citing the clear attempt to garner illegal votes in a US election- not to mention the danger of any illegal/hostile foreign national using an obtained ID to endanger air travel.

Democrats clearly no longer think the state’s GOP is capable of capitalizing on the opening they’ve been given and, after their recent performances, it’s hard to argue with that conclusion. But if licenses for illegals can’t revive New York Republicans, nothing will.

It doesn't really matter much--all New York's Electoral votes will be for the Democrat, anyway, so a few more illegal voters won't change that.

A New York state law that allows illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses is likely to also enable them to vote in elections, according to state officials.

The law, supported by state Democrats and the big business lobby, allows the 725,000 illegal aliens to be eligible for driver’s licenses when they are of age. State officials, even a Democrat state Senator, say the law will effectively allow illegal aliens to vote in elections.

“Theoretically, they could have the ability to vote,” Democrat state Sen. Luis Sepúlvedahe (D) said, according to the New York Post.

In New York, U.S. citizens only need a driver’s license to register to vote and though applicants are required to swear that they are eligible to vote, state election officials told the Post that “it’s basically an honor system.”

State Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan (R) told the Post:

[A] major concern is that many states, including New York, use their DMVs to enroll voters. Since New York does not have voter-identification laws like the majority of other states do, this bill increases the potential for voter fraud. [Emphasis added]

This means that New York will soon have the most radical, open-ended law in the entire nation. [Emphasis added]

In California, where illegal aliens are allowed to obtain driver’s licenses as well, voter fraud has become common across the state. Last year, the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) admitted that it had registered 1,500 non-eligible voters, including noncitizens, over the course of just six months.

Government Accountability Institute (GAI) research director Eric Eggers told Breitbart News last year that California’s laws giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens and its latest law known as “ballot harvesting” — which allows political operatives to collect voters’ ballots and deliver them to polling stations — is potentially contributing to mass voter fraud across the state.

Though Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, state Democrats, and the business lobby have helped to pass the driver’s licenses for illegal aliens initiative into New York law, upstate New Yorkers and suburban voters have revolted against the plan.

The latest Siena College poll revealed that a majority of all New York voters, 53 percent, oppose giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, including 62 percent of upstate New Yorkers and more than 5-in-10 suburban voters in the state.

At least 3 problems:

1. This is a DEM tactic that they are trying over as many states as they can. NY is the latest example

And illegals voting affects not only national elections, but congressional, state and local.

2. There is a multi-state movement to agree to having a given state's presidential electors vote for the candidate who gets the most national votes. Regardless of how the citizens of that particular state voted.

States like CA and NY could significantly spike that national vote count w illegals. Other states too. Actually, they probably already are. This will make it worse.

3. As bizarre as some of the DEM candidates are getting, there is an outside chance even NY voters might get sick of the radical left. (however unlikely)

Why doesn't the federal government just tell them they can't do that? Seriously?

Driver's licenses are issued by the State in which you reside. The Feds have no jurisdiction over driver's licenses.
