The difference between a quality $300 watch and a $900 watch is negligible. I'd rather have 3x of the former than 1x of the latter.

Take a look at the Marathon Navigator watches. They come in either a resin or stainless steel 41 mm case. Both are in your price range. I have been wearing the resin version for the past several years and it has been literally indestructible thus far.
