Lots of water craft going in / out of the lake. The drive on beach was closed (high water levels) and so I had to use the boat ramps. As usual, I try to stick to an edge ramp so that boats can use the central ramps. Anyway, when trying to leave the lake, some dude was in water at the bottom of the edge ramp. Something wrong with his wave runner. I'm thinking that he'll just tweak something and be off on his way. But no, he's tinkering in the lane for about 5-10 minutes. And then he pulls out the battery, while he's knee deep in water. At that point, I'm thinking: 1) shit or get off the pot. 2) he's not going anywhere soon 3) wtf - is that okay to mess with the battery while standing knee deep in water? I was getting frustrated because he's dicking in the lane when he can pull the wave runner off to the side and tinker. But I was 'shocked' to see him pull the battery like that. Is that really okay? It's not something I would intuitively do but maybe water craft batteries are different? "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." I had to look up "wave runner". I see it's sort of like a "Sea-doo". flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

It's not ok to dick around at the boat launch, especially if people are waiting. Walking around with a 12 volt battery in a pool of water is not going to kill you. AC current on the other hand is a problem because one of the legs back to the power plant is literally the ground, so if you touch the hot wire while standing in a pool of water, you arw completing the connection back to the power plant.

Unless it was going to sink, catch fire or some other catastrophic issue he should have moved out of the way. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Got some news for you, get between a higher voltage DC power source and complete the ground and it can also kill you. BTW, if you don't believe this try getting between a stick welder set on DC and running 40V to the stick and you'll experience a distinctly painful jolt. I've stopped counting.

Not news to me at all as I don't make a habit of completing electrical circuits with my body, but also not relevant to the OP's question.
