$282K later, a Chinese Businessman, hitman & 4 subsequent sub-contractor hitmen that never killed the target are convicted in China. This could be a Coen Brothers movie.
BBC has the story:

If that were the plot to a movie, the reviews would call the plot unrealistic.

That’s a helluva mismanaged subcontracting plan Wink

Send 'em all to the same prison, take bets on who gets who - or whether anyone gets "got" at all.

Nice to know that if the government loses the case they can appeal until they win...

The case initially went to trial in 2016, but the six defendants were acquitted due to a lack of evidence. Prosecutors appealed against the decision, and the second trial lasted three years.

Tan, who hired the original hitman, was sentenced to five years in prison, while Xi, the first hitman, was sentenced to three years and six months.

When I hire hitmen to handle my wet work, I expect them to do the job themselves. I do not deal with hitmen that contract the work out to subs. It's one of the first questions I ask in the interview.

Interesting courtroom attire for the defendants!
Wonder if that predisposes a quilty verdict, US court style?
Well guess not, first trial, lack of evidence, then appealed, and 3 years for the second trial.

See, even when the Chinese outsource to Chinese, the work is shoddy.

As to “why” convicted, many business & government decisions depend on judicious, or judicial, application of Heung Yau (fragrant grease).

I think your question may cause the total to increase by one.

The Chinese certainly have it down: Use a process until you get the desired result.

Maybe some around these United States are learning principles of justice from the commies.

Makes one appreciate the system that we're supposed to use.

No wonder the people in Hong Kong so opposed the new proposal to be taken deep into Chinese justice to be tried.

Funny this comes up today.

Watched a 50 yr old "Gunsmoke" last night. There was a gunslinger hired by a Rancher to kill Chester, the deputy.

Gunslinger/hit man takes the money and visits his target. Tells him "I was hired to kill You". Then goes on to say "How much money do You have"?

Turns out old Chester had all of $18 hidden away. Gives it to the guy and he states He's gone forever.

"You know, I've NEVER killed anyone. I just take the contract money and leave town".

"None of the folks I swindled ever go to the Marshall".

Thought it was an interesting plot line, especially 50 yrs back.

Try the Continental. I hear they provide contractors who are a good deal more professional and reliable than these clowns.
