Couldn't wait to go fishing
I live here in lynchburg. Would love to know where you went Smile
My friends keep going trout fishing but I found the rivers to be ... terrorizing. I got into a bunch of plate size mossy rocks and went down hard. Thought I had blown my rotator cuff again. I have to remind myself I am not young and being that far up in the mountains....
Anyway, We have had fun but the trout don't seem to care for salmon peach this year. I switched to worms I dug on the bank and started getting hits but the little thieving bastards just snatch and grab.

I haven't put the boat in since the middle of January, but when the rockfish bite gets slow, I move to small mouth in the late season. Here's the last one I caught, came in right about 17". No whopper, but one of the nicest colored smallies I've seen so I snapped a pic before he went back in.

Indeed he did!

Have to see about launching my Jon boat, and get some fishing in in a few days. On the lake, crappie should be getting started, and perhaps some of the larger pan fish, bass.

Don't know where you are, but I will be in North Idaho in about 3 weeks. Lewiston area. My brother says the salmon should be coming on about then, as well as bass, trout, etc. I can hardly wait. Been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long since I was home and fishing, or hunting there.

I wade Percival's Island downtown. Not as slippery as the rivers up in the mountains, but also not as clean. The northeast side of the island is good. Has a better flow to it and seems to hold more fish all together. Which river were you fishing in those pics? Reminds me of the Tye farther up.

That's great to hear. It is about to get good around here. There's a river south of me that is supposed to hold a fair amount of walleye. Never fished it though. Looked up the Maumee just now and the first thing that came up was a picture of folks wade fishing. Nice.

Been itching to go fishing for some smallmouth. Here in central VA the rivers are still cold, but I had to go. Headed out the past two days to a small broken down dam to wet the lines and ended up wading out chest deep in ~50° James River water. Hundreds of casts, 1 bite, 1 fish. 19.5" fat smallmouth. Made my day. Close to a citation in VA. This should get all the fishermen out there juicy. I'll post a pic when I can figure out how to.

Finally put a new fan in my laptop and figured out how to get a pic up. Hope it works.

Nice. When they get that to that 16-17" around here you will see those vertical black bands on them after a good fight. Good looking fish.

My favorite river fishing area is on the Clearwater between Lewiston and Orofino. I didn't get out for the winter Steelhead B run this year. Still recovering from surgery. Hopefully I'll be able to try for Salmon in a month or so.

Good luck and have a great time Elk,

Jim

For fly fishing, take a trip to Hidden Valley in Bath County on the Jackson River. The Blue Bells and Rhododendron will be blooming this time of the year in several weeks.

I think above the bridge, it is catch and release.
