Rev. A. J. ForsythEscaping The Anti-Constitution State and Heading to North Carolina
After living in Connecticut for awhile we are finally escaping to warmer, friendlier environs. Flying down to NC next week to look at houses east of Winston-Salem. Towns like Advance, Clemmons, and Lewisville. Any advice from members in the area would be much appreciated.

IronworkerSir, about 15 years ago, I moved from Maryland to Virginia to get out from under the thumb of the Democrats. Now it looks like they may be ruining VA. So I have been looking around and I am thinking about S.C. The reason I eliminated N.C. was because I could see the Democrats ruining that state in my lifetime. I don't know if that is a big consideration for you, but I thought I should mention it.

Jimbo JonesCome on down!
Sadly my F-I-L is up in CT (NW part of state) and won't move. Just visited over Thanksgiving.
The towns you listed are West of W-S. Not sure of much other than Kernersville East of W-S, until you get to Greensboro (some nice areas there NW of downtown).
Don't know much about the W-S area but I know there is at least one member here who is as he was showing pics of his garden a few weeks back. Hope he chimes in...
Theres some good demographic info available (median salaries, median home prices, how the schools rate) at

It's a double corporate relocation for the wife and I. I have heard the same rumblings about NC. The way our work lives are, I can't see us being there for more than 5 years.

GraniteguyCongratulations on your escape !! Best of luck in NC.

MikeinNCGet a pistol purchase permit or two from the sheriff as soon as you move in. Then go get your CCW.
You have to have one or the other to buy a handgun in NC. And the PPP is good for four years....the wait time is usually a week, depending on the county sheriff. The CCW is 90 days...after you take the class and have the certification in hand.

bubbatimeDont they require a permit to buy a pistol in North Carolina? That would annoy me so bad (if true)
But yeah its a step up from the communist socialist republic of Connecticut

Mountain ManHave some family in eastern SC. While it does sound tempting, I hate the heat and humidity with a passion. I need Mountain and some snow to keep my sanity.

Scooter123You are welcome if you are a Republican, if you are a Democrat then stay where you are and enjoy the mess you created.
IMO this should be the standard response to anyone moving out of an area that has been wrecked by Liberals. California transplants have totally destroyed Colorado and it appears that Texas is next on their target list.
I've stopped counting.

downtownvThe sad part is those fleeing often bring the liberal vote that got them there in the first place.
Also the state is happy you are leaving. You don't match up to their vision.

If you have a ccw then that it used to purchase a handgun. If not, a permit to purchase from the local Sheriff is required and really is not a big deal.
Sadly, we are experiencing some of what other states have experienced with transplants. They want to escape the place they are from but then come down here and want to continue pushing for the same crap policies and politicians they said they wanted to escape. That's one reason we have this idiot Cooper for governor.

In that case, ensure you stay up in the semi-liberal cesspool of MI, because it's certainly your fault.

BelwolfCongratulations, I left that pig of a state in 1996 and never looked back.

lowflashI first came to North Carolina in 1964 (USMC). Twenty-five years ago we returned to NC. We have no regrets except we should have returned sooner. Both of our sons came a bit later to NC, their regret is they did not come sooner!

SJSI grew up in Clemmons and lived in Lewisville for a short time as well. That was several years ago and it has certainly grown and changed since then, but I still get there occasionally to visit my mother in law and know the area.
It’s a nice place, not too big and not too small, and close to lots of good things.
I’m happy to help however I can.
Good luck with the move!

280noslerI live outside of Charlotte. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to discuss. I've lived here for 20 years, and while we are not perfect, we don't claim to be either.

ScurvyJust what most North Carolinians want...more people from the North East.
At least you're one of the good ones but be prepared to be met with some derision depending on where you live.
