Another vote for Olight i3t. Not sure if it's the 200 180 lumens claimed, but certainly more than bright enough plus has a second lower light level.

I've got microstream's in black and coyote and the switch sequence is reversed between the two. Coyote turns on in high, black turns on in low. I like light when I click the switch so I carry the coyote.

If anyone is interested, the 2 AAA microstream that Para posted on page one is 50% off at 20 bucks. I had to.

Thank you all for the ideas so far, good stuff. The rechargeable thing is probably the more practical idea, but I do travel frequently for work, and the idea that I can get a spare battery anywhere - drugstore, quickie-mart, grocery store, etc. - is appealing to me. However, I do keep a few CR123 batteries around for my WMLs, and they do seem to be becoming more common.

And I do appreciate the value option - Harbor Freight - but I just don't feel like I can rely on one every time as I can with some of the more known brands.

If you are open to bigger then AAA the 1L-1AA or Protac 90 mentioned above are really solid choices.
-can be programmed easily to single mode
-good thrower and quite bright with a CR123A
-Fairly inexpensive
-will run on CR123, Alkaline AA, NIMH AA, Lithium AA, or the same with a AAA in an emergency.

I still think you would be happy with either a Microstream, Olight I3T or Protac 1AAA. The Protac is a really good little AAA light that can be setup to single mode and has decent throw.

With the situation with Lithium 3AAA I too would recommend a CR123. I have a 4Seven Quark single CR123 that I have had for around 20 years I am guessing. Do not use a lot. But still have it and it works like it did the day I got it.
As mentioned in this thread the Fenix LD series is a great light as well.

I carried a Fenix LD01 and after alkaline batteries ate its internals I went back to the well and got its successor the LD02. I only run rechargeable AAA in it now so no worries about leaving it on in my pocket and overheating damaging the light. These two lights served me well for years, more than 10.

This black Friday I got the itch to try something different on my keychain and got a Fenix E03R v2 and It is an amazing little light. I'm sure other manufacturers have like models but this light is the one I chose and think it is great. Not AAA but it is still a great little light.

After reading about a number of the lights in Para’s first aid kit light thread last year, I really liked the Microstream that he liked and was suggested earlier in this thread but I wanted something with a little more brightness for a small purse/car pocket light for some relatives. I went with the Microstream Stylus Pro, a slender, two AAA battery light rated at 100 lumens and costing under $20.

Unfortunately, it appears to have been a poor choice because the switch on two of the three that I purchased failed to work out of the package (with several sets of new batteries) and had to be returned. The third one worked great and was just what I was seeking in size, form factor, and output, but I wonder how long it will last based on the lack of performance of the other two.

There are a ton of counterfeit Streamlight products even down to the basic original Microstream. Amazon seems to be rife with them. It COULD be you got some of those…….or you could have just gotten some crappy lights.

The rechargeable Microstream is my daily carry.

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet. Nebo HL20G. Rechargeable or 2 AAA. Offered as an Inspectors flashlight, I've worn out 2. 30 bucks. Recharges with mini usb port in the side of the body. Also has zoom function & pocket clip. Not a tactical light but I sure use it a lot on the daily.

I'm a fan of Streamlight. While I'll keep using Surefire for full-size WML, Streamlight has won me over with their overall value and performance for both CCW and EDC usage, and the Microstream-franchise is a high-value winner.

When I saw Riley's post about that, I looked at the Streamlight website. The switch sequences for the black and coyote models are documented there, just as Riley posted. There is no mention of the sequences for the red and blue models, which are newer (later releases) than the original black and coyote models.

UPDATE: I emailed Streamlight Customer Support to ask about this. The response was, the coyote colored model turns on with the high intensity first; a double tap sets it to low intensity.

All other models (red, blue, and black colors) turn on with low intensity first; a double tap gets high intensity.

Just got my streamlight microstream in coyote from amazon. I keep pressing the actuator but it only seems to have one brightness and it does not stay on if I release my finger. I feel stupid but I cannot figure this out.

Unless your coyote is broken you're using the momentary function and have to press till it clicks for it to stay on. A double click will put it in low.

I seem to recall this issue being discussed where the switch is difficult to get it to click.

The switch is hard to press and the “double press” for low must be FAST.

I had to charge it and now it works. Thanks.

Thanks to this thread, I now have a streamlight microstream rechargeable in coyote. The form factor is perfect for pocket carry.
