Get busy living or get busy dying! |
I'd like to think of myself as a mature, masculine guy. When we went to Pearl Harbor a few years ago and went to the Arizona Memorial I wept like a little girl. What that generation did for our Country can never be repaid...........

Like many of you former Navy guys who sailed into Pearl, I vividly remember sailing into Pearl on the USS Truxton, DLGN-35 in 1973 and standing at attention as we passed the Arizona. I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... When you have no future, you live in the past. I will never get to pearl but have chills just reading these posts. I have made the run to the wall many times and have seen the gardens of stone in Rapid City. I thank every vet I see for their service and sacrifice. They are a humble group to a man. Those of the greatest generation are most touched by recognition. If you see a vet ahead or behind you at the coffee shop buy them a cup . I know the folks on this site will always honor vets and teach their kids the same. Stand for the flag kneel for the fallen. God bless you vets and active duty. We owe you a debt that can never be repaid .

Exactly. I've been to the Arizona 3 times and cried every time. Also at the Vietnam Wall. The playing of Taps and certain patriotic songs also bring me to tears. I like to think it's my patriotism showing, not a feminine side. flashgoy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

No double standards |
I have been to the Vietnam Wall once. I was trained as a combat medic during Vietnam, was a reservist, never activated. But I remember a couple of weeks before graduation the company was called into formation, our next duty assignment was called out. All reservists went back to their home unit. All regular army were assigned to Vietnam. I stood at the Wall, looking at names, wondered if any listed were in my unit. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it" - Judge Learned Hand, May 1944

I don't believe anyone I knew is posted to the Wall. Several of my AFROTC friends were combat pilots, but I don't think any were killed in Vietnam. (I searched the list for their names and didn't find them.) flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth
