Really? None of you rocket surgeons have ever misspoken?

Give the lady a break. Being a local news reporter is a lousy, low paying, high stress job. I doubt she is dumb but if she is covering the crime beat she likely was up all night trying to get the story. I've certainly said my fair share of silly things due to a lack of sleep and lot of stress, but was fortunate enough not to have a camera in my face.

C’mon, really? Yes we’ve all misspoke, but to say what she said is beyond the typical gaffs of mispronunciation or accidental sexual innuendo. She said they were unable to reach the deceased for comment.

Go back to the original post. What do you see? You see this little emoji Big Grin

That emoji reflects the fact that the poster thinks it's funny. I stand by that - if it was me or someone I know I would be poking them and laughing about it. It's funny. I realize some people take themselves entirely too seriously and never laugh at a slip up, but I would be the first to post this even if I was the one who did it - it's funny.

Of course I have, but I've never told the public that I failed in my attempts to interview the dead.

At least the media won’t be able to misquote him.

Never interrupt the enemy when they are making a mistake.

The media is the enemy. Don’t think for a minute that this poor anchor “news lady” won’t make up fake news about you in a heart beat and go full CNN fake news on you and your family.

And if she won’t? She’ll not be around long. It’s the current state of local news.

I imagine she grew up in Chicago. Simple mistake once she moved.

She's making less than a Starbucks barista in a dying industry. She is shooting live with one take. I'm sure you've seen bloopers from movies. They have dozens of takes and a script yet still manage to screw it up. Doing any production is hard.

I used to do live briefings after putting an overnighter collecting information and it was easily one of the hardest parts about that job. When I was a medic I once broadcast over the radio that I electrocuted a patient when I meant to say extricated. The nurses at the hospital gave me a bit of grief for that one but everyone knew what I meant and we moved on. No big deal.

But let's take a step back, we're grown ass men making fun of a 20-something woman who made a nervous mistake. That doesn't seem appropriate.

Maybe a subpoena would work? Wink

They must be trained in college or wherever that when they can't get a first person account, to end the story with:

"multiple callls to ___ where not returned" or

"multiple attempts to interview ____ were unsuccessful"

Roll Eyes

we shouldn't give her a break...why should we?

if you were the target of her interview, you think she'd give you a break?

she's doing what she can to get noticed by a network - so screw her, screw her career...

she's certainly not our 'friend'

no reason to treat her like one

Exactly. And as friend Jones says above, they are the enemy. They’d happily refer to a legal shooter as the “gunman” for ratings, innocence and lawfulness be damned.

As to the exhaustion? Big whoop. I’ve gotten stuck on duty for way past double shifts on accidents, searches, and body recoveries. I’ve never said anything approaching this stupidity...probably because when I give statements they are factual renderings, not acting rehearsed lines and flubbing them because you were trying to dramatize. No sympathy whatsoever.
