They connect with a rubber adapter. All solid, no leaks.
Sometimes that is how it looks. An uneven snap or cut, with a Furnco barely grabbing as it should, plus temperature swings, can nudge pipes apart.

An extra wye in line, discovered to be unnecessary (like if it was put in for a double bowl sink but abandoned) and duct-taped rather than properly sealed, is just as likely as a cracked vent stack.

No unused or improperly terminated connections. I will check the clamps on the Furnco.

Check your gutter downspouts. We had a small dead critter stuck in one, the smell was sucked into the basement. Drove us nuts.

Just finished up replacing everything under the sink from the drain tailpiece to the wall connection. Couple of pretty ragged gaskets and corroded nuts/threads, so that was no doubt part of the issue.

Also replaced the wax ring under the stool while I was at it. Not sure if it was damaged in place or came apart when I lifted the stool off the flange but it was all tore to hell, so a new one was a good idea.

Now we wait and see if the problem is solved.
