I am working on remodeling my house a room at a time and the living room is just about done but I want to get rid of the wires connecting the rear speakers to my processor I've hunted around a bit and see several systems but wondering if anyone has actually done it. I can keep my front, center and sub-woofer wired without an issue' thanks all

There will be an audio delay between wired and wireless in the same system feed. It's best to keep the audio feed to all speakers the same, either wired or wireless.

I have no discernible delay in my system. I have 2 RocketFish wireless units for my two rear sets of speakers. They work great were easy to connect and setup and I have not touched them in 8 years since I set them up. Unfortunately they are no longer made but can be found on EBay. However if you are already wired I suggest keeping it that way. My basement was finished already when we bought the house so it would have been an extensive job to wire them. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Hi Greg, Might help if you give us the specs of your AVR. Some if not most current HT AVR have measuring/correction software and hardware that will take care of distance between Sweet (listening) Spot and your speakers. Am curious as well about the replies. Have heard of Sonos and MusicCast but never seen them deployed. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

I have a Sonos Arc system, and the sub and rears are wireless (well, mostly... they still need power). Works great, with super high quality sound, and no delays. However, that's designed from the ground up as a self-contained wireless system, so switching to that would entail replacing everything with a new complete Sonos system ($1800-$2000+). Whereas it sounds like the OP is just looking to convert his existing surround sound system into having wireless rears, and you can't just slap a couple Sonos wireless rear speakers onto that existing setup. Instead, he's going to need to look at some flavor of aftermarket transmitter/receiver wireless conversion kit for the wired rear speakers on his existing system, like the Rocketfish kit mentioned by Black92LX (which are out of stock at Amazon, but available at Best Buy): https://www.bestbuy.com/site/r...4098.p?skuId=6254098

You will still need a "wire", whether a power wire to one of the speakers or a connection from one to another in the pair.

My experience from hearing two systems; the first sounded "off" some how, the second, my brain was interpreting the sound as an echo. One was a Sonos (not sure which) and the other was an unknown. On the second, witht he "echo," I asked if the person had wireless speakers. He told me the rears and sub were. But then again, about 85% of the time, I can also hear the difference between vinyl vs CD vs mp3 (regardless of compression aspect). the vinyl vs CD is the hardest for me to differentiate when/if it is a very clean piece of vinyl. They apparently didn't have their Sonos system calibrated correctly. There's a phone app for that.
Yep. There's no way to get around powering the (mostly) wireless speaker, so you'll still have a power cord for either the wireless rear speakers or the Rocketfish-style conversion receiver. The benefit is that a power cord only has to go to the nearest outlet, not all the way across the room to the A/V receiver like speaker wires would.

I have an Anthem processor with the microphone that goes on a small stand in the center of the room to calibrate speakers my old setup had a four conductor insulated wire going under the carpet - which is now gone and replaced with hickory hardwood Everything else can remain the same looking at a couple of systems on-line - one for each speaker - they appear to run about $250 each pair. Have also contacted a home audio shop here in town for any recommendations they may have

I've also got a RocketFish setup for my rear speakers and have been happy with it as well.

Great googly moogly!!!!! Nice to see they are making them again but $150 a pop!!! I have $50 a pop and I thought that was stout. However I am very happy how they have been working. So depending upon how much it would cost to run wire my be a good investment. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Greg, I suggest also at least looking into this Audioengine setup. Audioengine W3 wireless audio adapter I have no personal experience with this system but have several pairs of their powered speakers, which are very well reviewed in places like Stereophile. Here's a review. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

If you already have wires running to the rears there's not much to gain by going wireless. You'd still have to run power, so there's wires going to the speakers anyway, just from a different location. If there's something preventing you from keeping the existing run, I'd go for a system designed with wireless rears in mind rather than cludging something together.

I'm planning to upgrade my 5.1 system to an 11.4 Auro-3D setup, researching phase. My current surrounds are wired, 10 feet up. I will use those for my second layer surrounds and add in new surrounds for the 1st layer(ground). Since I have wood flooring over slab I'm leaning towards wireless for 1 layer surrounds and rear subs. I came across a wireless amp that could support 2 passive channels with 50 watts RMS at 4 ohms and a line level for a sub. They are pricey, but allow for more speaker options. Yes there is an outlet requirement. But that is not the issue at the proposed locations. Dynasty ProAudio WSA-5RP-PLUS Not sure if I would go that unit. It's good to know about the other options. -TVz

thanks all as for power at the rear, I have electrical outlets available at the back so that isn't an issue - just want to get rid of 25' of white cable that is no longer hidden under a rug I will have to stick with the wires for a few more weeks until I decide what system to purchase

We use a Sonos Arc, 2 Sonos Ones and Sonos Subwoofer. We had 9.2.1 in our last house and this new system is just fine.
