2022 Toyota Carolla Cross.. Login/Join

I saw the 1st one today. I wish it was parked so as to get a better look. Seems like this size of vehicle picks up where Rav4 leaves off. The Rav4 is nearing the size of Highlander which, is awful close to the 4Runner now. I had to look on line to learn more of the Carolla Cross and its a very nice little SUV. Its packed with every electronic one could want. Some things like rotating head lamps for seeing around corners are strange. I dont think I could ever warm up to auto braking or all the sensors for blind spot managment. I like the front wheeler as it sports 18" wheels whereas the all wheel drive gets just 17". The front wheel drive averages 32 mpg with a 2 litre engine. Little guy makes 169 HP. Not a bad looking little SUV. Anyone here considering the little Cross?

I would not own anything with only 169 hp that’s not a motorcycle.

I was looking at a Corolla Cross last week after my wife's Corolla died after 180K miles. Sharp looking car but right now I'm a little leery of the Toyota brand.

My 2001 Civic Ex 5-speed had 127 hp. It also got 40+ mpg easy and was kind of fun to drive. For a basic vehicle to get from point A to point B having 169 hp is more than enough.

The Toyota Carolla Cross reminds me of the early RAV4 before it got so big and bloated. It would be neat if they went really bold and offered a drop top variant like with the original RAV4.

This was one of the most fun vehicles Toyota made that also did pretty good on gasoline consumption.

I remember my corolla. I had that car for 13 years. What a great little hatchback. 1.8 liter 4 banger, that engine and car were nearly bomb proof

My Fusion with the 3L V6 has 240hp, and I think I've used the WFO throttle setting maybe a dozen times, none of those times being an actual need to do so, just to play and get an idea what it'll do if I should need to use full power. In hindsight, I would've been just fine with the 4 cylinder and better gas mileage. I wouldn't let 169hp be a show stopper, especially if the transmission it's paired with is decent.

If you're frequently requiring WOT to do whatever it is you're doing, there's a chance you're doing whatever that is wrong. For most street related purposes, 170hp should be plenty.

Motor vehicles only use a small-ish fraction of the total available power to reasonably accelerate and maintain speed.

I've had a GEO many years back. Basically a Carolla and that little car was great transportation. Never a problem with it. This new Cross is larger and I like that it rolls along in 18" wheels. It is not a hybrid electric. Not untill 2023. Made right in Alabama too.

You don’t have to use full throttle to be getting the benefit of more power. You will also have more power right at throttle tip in. In todays world with everything having a bunch of power and with the bloated nature of vehicles today 169hp is not the same as it was 20 years ago.

I would have to see the weight and how many gears the trans has before considering. CVT would be a no go but an eight or ten speed auto would help with the acceleration.

The Cross looks like a Corolla with a puffed up blunt front that's been slightly raised. It has the same VVT 2.0 motor that is wonderful in the Corolla but unfortunately is only available with a CVT in the Cross.
I know David likes 18" wheels but a big reason I bought the model Corolla I did is for the combination of manual transmission and 17" wheels. 18" wheels are fine on a track, or if you are fortunate to only drive on smooth pavement, but no way I want low profile, rough riding, noisy, 18" wheels that are more prone to break or dent. So I think it makes sense that Toyota uses 17" on the AWD version.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I appreciate Toyota's efficient 2.0 motor which typically delivers about 35-36 mpg for my driving. I've gotten a little over 40 a couple times on trips and as low as 32 once last Winter when mostly driving short distances. And it'll quietly cruise at 75+ mph including up the mountains with a quick downshift to 5th.

Oh goody, yet another "crossover" wannabe SUV. And with Toyota's signature scowling-eye headlights and massive grille that makes it look like a giant angry fish, to boot. Do they even still make the sedan? Call me old-fashioned, but I like a large trunk that can have a lid closed on it to hide the contents. And I can do without the "nanny" and "tattletale" so-called safety features (found on all new cars, so not just Toyota) as well. I think I'll keep driving my 2009 for a while longer.

I drove the small engine vehicles in my younger years because I had to. I won’t do that again, even due to gas prices. I’ve made more money off oil this go round to offset gas prices until I die. I’ll take nothing less than a v6 thank you very much. As a matter of fact, I often pour gas onto the ground when filling my truck, just because I can…………….

I thought the Toyota designers (who used to mimic Ford a bit) were big fans of Battlestar Galactica and tried to make the cars look like a Cylon,,,

the Cross,, looks to be what the RAV4 should be,

and is Toyota killing off the CH-R?
I test drove one of those a few years ago and did not care for it , blind spots galore

Same. I loathe all CUV's. They are hatchbacks with lift kits with old man seats that look like they could maybe go off road but in reality, can't.

I am excited for the new GR Corolla hatchback which releases Thursday night on a live stream.
AWD, turbo, front and rear Torsen LSD's, 6MT.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
