I spend considerable time peeling off shipping label stickers from envelopes and boxes. I prefer not to have my name/address and shipper information on boxes I recycle. May not matter but doesn't hurt.

UPS Mail Inno - the label recently was a sticker but only on the edges. The shipping info was on a center portion that was dot perforated along the edges so that it was very easy to remove the label from the affixed edges. I love it - finally! I guess I'm not the only one who hoped for something like this.

So, you don't think anybody who actually wants to find you can put together your name and address, and are actually worried about the people digging through your garbage or recycle giving a single flying flip about who you are or that there is an actual house at your address?


I think the only way I'd have any concern is if the return label said "Shipped from Gold-R-Us with $1.6 Million in untraceable bullion included for local storage on site at recipient address." (eta - yeah, I'd give the same treatment to gun or ammo boxes perhaps. Good point)

Doesn't seem like the best use of time or paranoia energy, but I do know another person who does the exact same thing. Glad you're seeing improvements in the label designs but as a recipient I'd like the to be as permanent as possible so my stuff doesn't go missing!

But I don't need a box from <gun retailer> with all the info on the street because it escaped from the recycling process. Or some guy at the recycling center who might get curious.

Like I said - may not matter but doesn't hurt.

In my experience, it is a good idea to remove the labels. My spouse used a shipping box to take donated items to a local Goodwill store. After a week after she took the items, a person came to my house asking if I had the instruction manual for the drill I donated. He said he found my address on the box the item was in at the Goodwill store.

Some of us are more cautious than others.

Since the labels mostly use thermal printing technology, I find holding them above the stove top burner for a few seconds obscures identifying information. It also helps with peeling off the occasional non-thermal label.

Hmm. Hadn't thought of this. Will try the heat gun or torch next time I need to obscure a label.

I remove all labels when re-using packaging materials.
If the labels won't peal off I have a whole bunch of wide tipped black label/box markers and I black out all info.

All my gun boxes are Redacted !
Good ole black magic marker.....

I throw junk mail straight from mailbox to garbage can.

If junk mail I receive has a postage free return envelop, I shred the mail, stuff the envelop and mail it back to them.

I do the same and use a security stamp on all old mail I trash.

I keep most boxes so I can re-use them myself. Those that I don't, I try to cut up for target backers. If none of these option apply, I cut them up, labels included and toss them into a big cardboard recycle bin in my apartment complex.
So far, so good.....

Sounds interesting, I'll have to try this also

I take most of my smaller boxes to work for the shipping department to use and I always remove the labels.
