Every Chyrsler product I ever owned just seemed to be made cheaply. Won't own another.

I've sat on a cushion for years in my vehicles. Raises my back into what manufacturers call their "lumbar support" region. Currently I have 2" thick sound-insulating pad samples; very durable. A fine leather horsehair-stuffed 14" square pad would be grail.

One of the best vehicles I ever owned, until I wrapped it around a tree, was a 1988 D-150 short bed. Had the 3.9L V6, I think, and a 4-speed automatic. Stripped, red, vinyl floors. $8,900 out the door as a 2,200 mile demo.

If you get the Ram it will have a coil spring five-link rear suspension. This is smoother than the typical leaf spring beam axle suspension. There is also the expensive optional air bag self-leveling suspension in the Ram.

If you only take a few long trips a year maybe consider renting a Suburban or something. Would probably be cheaper in the long run as opposed to buying a new vehicle and will keep the big miles off of yours.

As usual, perfect timing on the forum. I finally got the ok from the boss to purchase a new/certified pickup within a year. My first new vehicle happened to be a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. I had it built to my specs and I absolutely loved that truck. I would like to have another Dodge, but the absolute deal breaker for me is that stupid electronic round shifter that is mandatory. So, that leaves me with the option of a Chevy or Ford. I am leading to the Chevy since my family has owned several, no one has ever had a Ford before. I wish I had the extra money, I would just get a Dodge 2500 but that's not an option.

Edit to ad: Op, If it were me, I would just keep what you have and try some of the suggestions listed to alleviate the pain. Good luck though!

I purchased a lumbar support cushion from Costco that I use in my home theater and it works really well. (I have the 30-position seat in my SUV, so no need there). It is branded "Brookstone," but I don't see it on Brookstone.com or Costco.com now. I did see this site that shows a range of options. I haven't tried them, but maybe one of them will work for you. https://www.carbibles.com/best...bar-support-for-car/

I have a 2020 Ram 1500 4x4 Limited Crew Cab and it is a fantastic truck. Don't buy this truck if you're wanting it for good fuel economy because it certainly isn't going to give you that.

I bought a new 2018 Ram 2500 diesel two years ago. It has been a fantastic truck, I am very impressed. As work is very slow due to Covid 19, I have been driving 55 mph on the freeway some of the time. As this vehicle has a diesel, I am getting 35 mpg at 55 mph. This is super for a 8,000 lb. truck with 700 lbs. of tools in it.

Could you find a wrecked F150 with better seats and swap them out. Might not be a real cheap fix but way cheaper than barrowing thousands and replacing a truck you already like.

I have my 2013, with the power seats and just love them. Pushing 180k now.

I have never been a dodge fan. I have family members who have them. I just haven't seen the interest.

I have not looked at their new trucks in about 3 years. So my opinions are out dated. This model looks like it the shit though.

He told me adding cushion or changing to leather wouldn't help since the pain is in my back and not in the lower part of my legs or butt.

The upholsterer did give me some ideas of custom seats but the ones he recommended were 2500-3500. Less than a truck but not ideal either.

I do have a foam lumbar support coming Thursday to try out. I was hoping it would have been here already but Amazon shipping times have been really delayed for non-priority items.

One poster suggested maybe I wanted a reason to buy a new vehicle. Although I get why someone might think that, I would actually really like to avoid getting out of the F-150 since it's paid for. I don't like debt and pay my purchases off quickly. If it wasn't for the several longer trips I take every year, I wouldn't consider a different truck. I am dreading driving the ten hours from MN to Mt. Rushmore again this summer.

I'm really hesitating on purchasing the Ram since I otherwise like my F-150. Although I do think the F-150 leans more and is a rougher ride than the Ram for sure.

Not sure what I'll do yet but thanks for all the feedback.

It sounds like the upholsterer is telling you is that the seats aren't the issue. If you want the truck get the truck, but don't expect it to make a difference in your back pain.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 (offroad package and one trim level down from the Laramie) - I really like it. I've been a dodge/ram owner my whole adult life so my opinion is a bit biased, but my ford buddies that have been in my last two have stated that they really liked them.

with the 8 speed transmission I regularly get 21 mpg hwy. That's 6-7 mpg better than my 2008 1500 while adding significantly more HP and torque.

We do have kids so got the crew cab vs the quad cab - there is plenty of room rear seats - I'm 6'2" and my knees are no where near the driver's seat even with it all the way back.
