Help ID This Item - Esso Gasoline Related
I found this item in a cigar box with some of my father's old odds & ends. Judging from the age of the box and the other contents, I'd say it dates to the mid 1960's. With the tiger mascot on the side, it appears to be an Esso Gasoline advertising perk. It appears the two straps fold inward to create loops while the circular halves snap together. I thought perhaps it was some type of key fob though I couldn't locate anything similar on the inter-webs. Any ideas? Thanks for looking.

Esso once had “a tiger in your tank” promotion for a period of time. I remember that as I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA, which has a large Exxon ( then Esso) refinery.

We had several of those back in the late 60’s or early 70’s. It was promotional swag from Esso. Yes, it is a key fob. After threading a key or keys on each “strap”, you pop the ball into the socket on the center of the fob. If I remember correctly, the center halves pulled apart so you could give the valet your ignition key and retain your house key. Certainly any valet would be impressed when you flashed such a high quality plastic key fob.

Brings back memories of 35-cents per gallon high test gasoline and free stuff from the gas companies.
