8 hours in Key West.... what should we do? Login/Join

In two weeks we are going on cruise and have an 8 hr. stop in Key West. There are 8 people in the group. We are not planning on doing any dedicated booked activities such as fishing, snorkeling etc. What should we do? What should we avoid? I have heard of golf cart rentals to get around to different areas.

We did the shipwreck museum as well as the other things on HRK's list and a trolley tour.

I'd be inclined to stay on the boat these days.

If you have time for happy hour. Some days of the week they run pretty decent specials.

Whatever you do, just make sure you make it back to the ship on time as they will leave without you.

I wouldn't rent a golf cart, honestly. There is a "Duval Loop" free bus service that goes close to many of the places worth going to. We took it the entire time we were there.

For places worth going to:

Mel Fischer Museum

The Little White House

Hemingway House

Key West isnt that big. If you like to drink, I'd just bounce around and bar hop. Everything is close. I'd just go on a walk about, pop in where you want to pop in. Definitely have some key lime pie if that's your thing, maybe some conch fritters or grouper tacos.

Key West ain't much about thinking, just doing.

When you and the 3000 other cruisers get off the boat there won't be much time to sight see, it's just too crowded. Just go to the close by bars and people watch. Oh, if you drop anything on the ground, don't bend over to pick it up.

I really enjoyed eating at Clemente's Trolley Pizzeria. I would classify it as more of a gourmet type place, not a big noisy barn filled with kids. Read the reviews on Yelp, the ones I read are an accurate description of the restaurant.

Depends on what you want.

A few places that are touristy but you should do and everything in Key West is touristy anyway.

Duval Street, get a drink and walk.
Sloppy Joes bar
Southernmost Point
Mallory Square If you're there at sunset go here. It's always a fun place at sunset.

Truman’s Little White House was very cool in my opinion. Blue Heaven has very good food.

I'm into history, these two for sure. With 3000 cruisers and the usual mobs of tourists, you may wish to get tickets ahead of time. And good luck getting 8 people to agree on anything!

I'd also add Mel Fisher Museum, the Aquarium, and the fort are all nice. Blue Heaven for lunch or Half Shell raw bar, both are great depending on which mood you're in. Golf cart is a good way to get around, but most things are within walking distance from the Cruise ship.

If the weather is nice (no/little wind) you can also do a jet ski or mini speed boat tour around the entire island. Another option is to fly on the seaplane to the fort.

It’ll be a nice 70ish degrees and no hurricanes. So weather will be great.

I’m addition to the above. There’s a cemetery there that has some USS Maine sailors. If history is your thing. Also the Mel Fisher Museum (the famous shipwreck diver who found the wreck of the Spanish galleon Atocha) has all those gold bars and coins and salvage on displays.
