Just watched the highlights. A's had a critical error there in the bottom of the 9th.

If you mean the middle infielders, the official ruling was a hit not an error. I can possibly understand the second baseman who fielded it because it hit high on his glove. Still I was surprised by the ruling. But I’m not sure the shortstop who backed him up lost it in the transfer, I’d have to watch the replay. That looked like a solid error to me.

I’m also not educated enough to know if an error can only be accredited to the original fielder of the ball, or if it can be any man involved in the play.

I’ve got the phone in my hand so perhaps I should look up the official rules of fielding errors instead of being lazy.

I didn't look up the scoring of error or not. Just assumed it was an error as it looked like what should have been a standard play to me as I watched it.
Regardless the A's failed on numerous fronts. That play and general failure of the relievers.
