Meet Jax the Maligator
Well, so far he's spent a day at the office with me. He is a super fast learner so training him is a pleasure. He knows to hang out on his blanket and has a half dozen chew toys. He gets up to greet people and is a big goofball. He usually says hi by lumbering over to someone and plopping down onto their feet looking for belly rubs.
So far his energy levels can be managed by a few outings with a ball or toy. I've also interspersed some fun obedience lessons with lots of treats to keep his little brain engaged.
His dealing with people have been 100% positive and happy but he's still a little insecure and unsure of his manners when he sees another dog. Once I've gained his trust and he's confident I'm his pack leader we'll start on that challenge.

I love this breed, never had one. When my Border Collie was doing dock diving, my wife travelled to Hunter Canine in AZ, they specialize in Malinois. I have a FB friend that works there, has one, I love to see her pictures.

Good luck, I thought about it but at 78 they have too much energy. I think it's a great thing to take him to work, get socialized.

Handsome.

The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Yep. I got two mini-poodles from the same litter with the idea that they can keep each other company. They play fight with each other all the time. But they're both still needy for my attention.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Great looking dog. I hope you keep us informed on how his training goes. My buddy had a GSD and that dog loved our family. He was a bear on a leash though. Tried to kill some neighbors. You sound like you know all this though and I'm sure you will train him up right. Good luck and good for you getting a rescue.

Congrats on the new addition to the family. I said goodbye to my pup last month and still feel the hole in my heart when she left. While nothing can replace the ones we’ve lost, Jax will fill your life with a different joy. He looks like a very smart boy.

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes.
So far he's been a total joy to have around. Very a-typical for a maligator that he seems to match the enerygy of whatever room he's in. I have him at my office during the day and he just chills on his blanket and chews his bone or snoozes. If someone new comes in he greets them with a nose boop to the hand to see if he can get some scratches and then settles back with his bone.
At home he's a lot more playful and a goof ball. He's definitely a good one.

Good deal. Ryan, if you don’t mind my asking, what kind of experience do you have with a working dog breed like a Mal?

Not a lot. I had an Australian Shepherd that required several daily exercise/training sessions and I've fostered several GSD's. Two for 3 months together and another for 6 months.
I really enjoy working with dogs and have always been fascinated with Mals but never have been in a position to take one on until now.
