A federal court in Fort Worth on Thursday struck down a Texas prohibition that limited adults under 21 from carrying handguns.

Texas law bars most 18- to 20-year-olds in the state from obtaining a license to carry a handgun or carrying a handgun for self-defense outside their homes.

Two plaintiffs, who fall within that age range, and the Firearms Policy Coalition Inc. filed a lawsuit against the state to challenge the statute.

“Based on the Second Amendment’s text, as informed by Founding-Era history and tradition, the Court concludes that the Second Amendment protects against this prohibition,” U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman wrote in the ruling.

It's also not a bad time to go on the offensive in the courts. It's better that Merrick Garland spend his time on what we think is important rather than spending his time on what Biden thinks is important. Wink

Either you’re an adult, or you’re not.

The ban on handgun ammo purchases under 21 should be next.

Glad for the ruling, but as a counterpoint, couldn't an 18-20 yr old carry under constitutional carry law?
Wouldn't help with out of state carry, but should cover TX?

2A doesn't mention age. How many teenagers and in some cases younger died in The War of Northern Aggression? I say put firearm training in school in place of crt.

Tangent:
When I was in 6th grade (1997) we took Hunter's Ed in school. If you passed, they had a small air rifle range set up behind the gym & we got to go out & shoot.

Small town (6k pop) 2 hrs eat of Houston.

I think I was 12 when I got my first BB gun and used it to put meat on the table. Graduated to a .22 at 14 put more meat on the table, graduated to a Win. 94? and put deer and elk meat on the table. Not to mention that we had to buy a freezer to store all the meat. My dad and mom also did a fair amount of hunting as well.

And, I see nothing anywhere that negates "Shall not be infringed!"

Good for Texas.
In New Mexico 19 and older can open carry. For a concealed permit you must be 21.
