Well tomorrow is my turn for Cataract Surgery.
My girlfriend had both her eyes done last year.
Mine is a VA referral. I told my VA Dr. that I wanted a outside Dr. to do mine and that I wanted the same Dr. that did Debbie's.

She said she would put me in for a VA referral to that Dr. And if the VA try to turn it down to keep asking. Well she did that on a Friday and on Monday the Dr. I wanted office called me. I can't believe it worked over the weekend.

So tomorrow is my surgery May 27th. My daddy died on May 27, 1980 so that's not a very lucky day for me. And May 28 is my Birthday so in 1980 I spent it at the funeral home.

So I'm looking for a great present this year a good right eye so I can see to shoot again.

My wife will have her eyes done next month. I had my eyes done 3 years ago. Easy, easy easy. Biggest improvement in my vision ever. Get the toric if you have astigmatism. They cost more but you won’t be sorry in the long run.

Pre-surgery I was 20/400+. Post surgery I am 20/15. Fighter pilot eyes according to my doc.

Just had my last post op visit 2 weeks ago. No more Mister Magoo action for me. The trees have gone back to having individual leaves on them now.
I suspect you will be pleased with your results as well. Good luck.

A guy I shoot with every week had both his eyes done around 6 weeks ago and he's going to be shooting with me again today.

He said he didn't realize what color the walls in his house really were.

I wonder why people wait so long to get it done. I don't NEED it yet, but my ophthalmologist said he would be happy to do it if I wanted it.

Hope all goes well for you.

Coincidentally, I just had my annual check-up today and my doc told me that I'm starting to develop cataracts. I'm almost 62 and he told me I'm "lucky" in that he expected them to start for me 5 years ago.

I've been told by my ophthalmologist that I have very mild age related cataracts and when they start to affect my vision (cloudiness, etc.) let him know as it would be time for surgery. That has started to happen. Frown

I currently wear glasses to drive and have astigmatism. Eyesight is 20/30 to 20/40 depending on the tests and days. Big Grin

What confounds me is the huge variety of replacement lenses available. And friends indicating they spent the big bucks only to have to resort to "cheater" glasses a few years later.

Here's what I find... I'm overwhelmed! Roll Eyes

>
>
> Cataracts occur when the natural crystalline lens, or focusing lens, behind the pupil begins to become cloudy and dense, stopping light from entering the retina. As part of the natural aging process, you will get cataracts at some point in your life. Since they can limit your vision and lower your quality of life, it’s best to have them removed via surgery.
>
> However, you may wonder if you’ll still need to wear glasses to maintain good vision even after your surgery. Depending on the choices you make regarding your lens, you may not have to.

> Improving Your Vision After Cataract Surgery
>
> Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear one to restore your sight. The lens you choose will have an impact on whether or not you’ll still need glasses after having your cataracts removed. Some of your lens options include:

> Fixed-Focus Monofocal
>
> This is a basic lens that provides a single focus strength to restore distance vision. As such, this lens would still require you to wear glasses for reading and near vision.

> Accommodative
>
> We’re proud to offer Crystalens® which uses the natural focusing muscles to accommodate the full range of vision. As the most advanced accommodative ocular lens, the Crystalens® focuses 100 percent of the light rays at each distance, so you can clearly see near, far, and everything in between — meaning there is rarely a need for glasses after surgery.

> Multifocal
>
> We offer many multifocal lenses to restore your vision, such as:

> Tecnis Symfony
>
> This lens helps restore near and far vision, reduce glare and halo effects, and extend your depth focus, allowing you to see better during the day and night with less of a dependency on glasses.

> Tecnis Multifocal
>
> This lens will help you see better than you have in decades, even in low light and far distances. The advanced implantable lens corrects the need for reading glasses and restores vision after cataract removal surgery.

> Iq Restor®
>
> By combining the strengths of apodized diffractive and refractive technologies, this lens allows for better quality near, intermediate, and distance vision as well as greater independence from reading glasses or bifocals.

> Astigmatism Correction
>
> If you suffer from cataracts and astigmatism, Toric intraocular lenses can resolve both issues simultaneously to provide you with the broadest possible range of vision for astigmatism patients. This lens often allows for complete independence from glasses.

Helping you choose the right contacts is something your surgeon should do. He talked a friend of mine out of the more expensive cataracts because my friend has amblyopia in his right eye. The more expensive contact would have provided no benefit.

I'm 44 and I have a cataract in my right (shooting) eye from a childhood injury. It's been getting worse as I get older and it's to the point where I would like to get it taken care of, but my eye doc has been reluctant due to my age. Staring at a PC screen all day is tough since the text isn't crisp (even with glasses with slight magnification) due to the cloudiness (mine is white vs the typical yellow?) Hopefully they'll let me get it taken care of soon.
