Magic bullet for prostate cancer?
Maybe. There have been magic bullets before…

“A revolutionary 'magic bullet' that kills prostate tumour cells has cured patients given just weeks to live.

Six out of 10 patients with an advanced form of the disease are in remission one year after undergoing the treatment, a Cypriot study found.

The therapy uses a molecule that attaches itself to prostate tumour cells before releasing energy that destroys the cancer…”

All kidding aside, the media is about as good at medical research reporting as they are with guns, targeted radionuclide therapy has the potential to be a major improvement in cancer care. There need to be a lot more research but early results are promising.

"a Cypriot study found"

I'd like to hear this from a somewhat more reliable source.

I hope it works, and I hope it becomes available at reasonable cost.

I am currently dealing with the return of prostate cancer after radiation failure, so I follow news of developments like this.

Yes, if I was afflicted with this disease I’d ask my care provider’s opinion of this report.

It sounds similar to the way radioactive iodine can target thyroid cancer cells. It would be wonderful if it proves to be effective in larger studies.

With other medical issues, there have been international forum groups formed to share information between patients. They share news of developments or even what pharmaceutical companies are doing in other countries that they may not be doing here in the US.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I've been on the receiving end of Zevalin (Y-90 labeled monoclonal).
It works but you feel sunburned on the inside.
Targeted radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies have huge potential in cancer treatment.

Mine was removed in 1985 2005, and I've been clean (zero PSA) since then. Removal, as an option, depends on several things, such as the size of the cancer, age of the patient, and others I've forgotten. I did explore all the options (seed implant, e.g.). The issue with the seeds, in my decision, was that once you've had that procedure, the prostate can no longer be removed at a later date, due to all the scar tissue caused by the radioactive implants. If it comes back, your options are limited to other treatments. I have my annual PSA and visit to the urologist this August, the 13th anniversary of my surgery.

Amen brother. $50k to still have my Dad here would be a small price to pay. Three years too late, for him.

Prayers sent for you and yours. Regards 18DAI

Nice! You said 1985 in the first part of your post. Is it 13 or 33 years? Either way, I'd say you're past any danger.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago. AIR, they took 12 samples from my prostate and 10 of them showed cancer.

My urologist recommended IMRT therapy. Immigration Modulated Radiation Therapy.

It does not use hard radiation. Only X-ray.

So, no problems with hard radiation damage, etc.

It took 39 treatments, 6 every week but the cancer was defeated and no side effects. Other than fatigue which may have been mostly due to all the driving to get to and from the facility.

I can only recommend that form of treatment!!!!!!!!!!

In any case, good luck with whatever form of treatment you choose.
