USAF Tactical Weapons Effects Test-
A whole lot of awesome stuff in this 20 min video- including F104s doing ground attack!

I was a Crew Chief on the 104 at Eglin AFB during that exercise and filming although the F-104s in the film were from Homestead AFB
Whats not in the film is we Lost a F-105 and F-100 when a delayed action mine dropped on a RR track exploded on impact, the two
Pilots and the enlisted camera operator all ejected safely

The sound is so distinct you can hear it. The call of freedom. The predecessor to the GAU-8 Avenger.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttt!

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Cool video! I have a soft spot for the F-80,T-33, and hated to see them shot down.

Great video.

One of my greatest disappointments is the USAF so far has been our inability to accurately record experiences and keep them in an accessible format. We have smart guys doing awesome work and learning interesting lessons, then they move on and those lessons are mostly forgotten while the new guy struggles through the same challenges. It’s an information management problem at the squadron level but has long term strategic consequences.

The solution is to have a lessons learned office that is staffed/funded to organize the job correctly and standardize inputs. But we don’t. It’s a mess. Anyway, just bitching about it. Cool video, thank you for posting.

Yep, thats in there! Pretty crazy watching those planes take that hit- the chase plane got the worst if it, but both crews had to eject.

Real life video of the reason for 'safe escape manuevers' in case a weapon explodes early!

Do you remember the timeframe? I was at Homestead early 1968 till Nov 1969 (319th deactivated in Dec if my memory serves me right).

I can't speak on other airframes, but this is 100% done in the A-10 community. At the squadron level.

I’ve heard the Thunderchief was a particular favorite of Vietnam War pilots.

Cool video!

I gotta say; as cool as the F104 Starfighter is...it looked absolutely absurd droppin' ordnance in a ground attack role. Roll Eyes

Great video, my dad flew the F100 and F86. I remember him telling me about those 2.5” rockets and staffing runs. Also Nothing much cooler than an F-104 with a damn Gatling gun!!!

If you take out your own plane with your own ordinance, do you get credit for the kill?
