Feeling safer, already. Outgoing Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards pardons 56 inmates, including 40 convicted murderers Published December 23, 2023 7:50am EST The outgoing governor of Louisiana has pardoned 56 inmates since October of this year, including dozens of convicted murderers. Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards has reduced the state's grossly over-populated prisons a top priority of his final term in office. "For as long as I can remember, Louisiana reflexively responded to an increase in crime by putting more people in prison and keeping them there longer," Edwards told Louisiana news outlet NOLA.com this week. "We've never been made safer as a result of that," Edwards said. "There is no data to suggest that an increase in crime here was because of the reforms." Others released by Edwards include inmates convicted of arson, robbery, and drug dealing, according to a complete list compiled by local outlet Fox 8. A total of 40 convicted murderers have been pardoned by Edwards in the past three months. Additionally, released inmates were convicted of aggravated arson, possession of Schedule II, aggravated kidnapping, theft, first-degree robbery, perjury, and armed robbery. In December alone, Edwards pardoned five inmates convicted of first-degree murder and eleven convicted of second-degree murder. Louisiana has among the highest incarceration rates per capita in the world. With a staggering 1,094 people per 100,000 in some form of incarceration, Edwards has made decreasing the prison population in the Bayou State a high priority. Edwards has served as governor of Louisiana since 2016, after defeating Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter in the second round of the 2015 election for governor. He was reelected to a second term in the 2019 election, becoming the first Democratic governor to win reelection in the state since 1975. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry was elected as Edward's replacement after securing over 50% of the vote threshold in an October jungle primary, avoiding a run-off.This message has been edited. Unreal. Amazing at how evil some politicians can be. After reading about some of those he let go, Edwards should go to jail in turn.

This sums up why I believe that this is part of the democrat plan is to rule by chaos. No one is this stupid. Quipping that they are is disingenuous. They are following the script. At the same time, the same party waged war on the police. Cops are the problem. Keeeping people in jail is the problem. Rinse, repeat and keep the fires going.

Yeah, it's MUCH better to allow violent criminals to roam free to prey upon the innocent population...Sooo 'Progressive'! Of course it makes perfect sense, IF you're a leftist imbecile! Why do Democrats Hate America, AND Hate Americans SO Much? The Governor should be held to strict liability for future acts by convicted murderers which he pardoned. “The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, and intolerable...” ― H.L. They keep saying "pardon." Do they mean that literally, as in, relieving all the legal effects of the felony conviction? Or are they using that interchangeably with commutation or some other clemency? Mrs. DennisM refers to Uncah Joe's recent spree-- and this sort of thing-- as "thawing out the Cryo-Prison," ala Demolition Man.

There were no nonviolent offenders he could have released? It had to be the worst of the worst? Hell yes it's according to plan.

Every single article you read out there says "pardon". So, I guess it's pardon. Q

Yeah sounds like total b.s. to me. Of the 56 released 40 of them are convicted murdered. You mean there’s not 40 people in prison with a non violent offense. What a crock. I bet there’s a money trail.

How about this? Let’s start making jail a place that you don’t want to be. Who cares if it was a violent or non-violent offense. If you got 5 years, you need to serve five years. This “oh but it was a non-violent offense” is what has got the criminal Justice system to where it is. If they are in jail, they won’t be out in public committing more offenses. It’s common place these days for a felon to rack up 50-60 years to serve over a half dozen cases in 10 years. Because, they know that they won’t serve any of it. It’s time for truth in sentencing, not feel good releases. I’m not really sure why people are so against abolishing student loan debt, but are totally cool with people being released from jail for a “non violent” offense for pennys on the dollar. Both are the same “you ran up the bill, now you need to pay it” circumstance.

Why not export them? Castro emptied his jails and sent the criminals to the United States in the Mariel boatlift.

Fighting the good fight |
Arkansas passed a law this year that implemented mandatory 100% service of sentences for the 18 most serious violent/sexual offenses, and 85% of sentence for other violent felonies. Goes into effect in 7 days, for new offenses in 2024 and onward. A good first step. (Though now the Board of Corrections is throwing a fit about having to add additional prison beds.)

"Accountability" A word not found in the Leftarded dictionary... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Of course, going forward the key to that policy would be convictions, which requires actual prosecutions of those crimes. Hopefully the justice system in Arkansas operates on the same level of seriousness as the State Police exhibits with their record/policy re: police chases! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !!
